| Jeep Commander crew cab pickup "Honcho II"-the build thread
one dremel, 2 $50 bodies... mock up on partial rolling chassis: these came in a lot of parts I bought. K2-3L chassis TLT axles pede trans also will have this: touring car wheels trail docs novak 55t or warrior 35t not sure tekin rebel 2 esc I'm going to have to narrow some axles for this 6.5" wide body. probably start with WK axles and trade my TLTs out. It'll probably be a slow build...this is all I'm going to get done this weekend, lol... Last edited by pantablo; 05-03-2008 at 12:31 AM. |

the wheels are HPI 10-spoke touring car wheels (26mm, 0 offset). They come black, white and chrome. Bought these to use on my rover since they look like OEM rover wheels but went with beadlocks instead for that one. I'll probably paint these gunmetal or black. I was going to use the front doors of the remnant front end to cover up the fender hole but I also might try to use the doors to add an inch to the bed length. I'd like to get a wb longer than 11. Right now its at 10.5". Ive come a long way...still long way to go though as I've never worked wiht styrene so the bodywork and scratch built bed inside is going to be a challenge. So will the axle narrowing. Has a full interior I need to hack up to fit too. This one will be long term and challenging.

| Its called a Jeep Desert Runner and here's where I bought mine: http://www.allaboardtoys.com/all_abo...psXRV-49019992 damnit. they're now 75% off ($25 each). Be warned though, they're closer to 1:12 scale so the wb is short and they're only 6.5" wide at the fender flares. working doors, full interior. Black or red. |

| I hope so. There are lots of great builders here. I'm not one of them. I'm just a hack in a little over his head. I just hope I don't embarass myself, lol... Quote:
In addition to narrowing axles for this I may also try reducing tires. I don't mean from 2.2 to 1.9 as I've already done that successfully and am pretty happy with them. They are too tall for this build however so I am going to look at a tire that I can reduce from 4-4.2" tall to 3.7" tall by cutting off the tread, then cutting the sidewall down in a circle. Ive seen it done and I think I can do it. Should be good if I do... Last edited by pantablo; 04-12-2008 at 10:36 PM.

looking through the spare body parts I have enough material in the extra front doors to extend the bed another 1.5" and get a 12" wb. I like that! Looks better too I think. |

Subscribed. I bet you could make it a little wider with those leftover body parts and styrene. |

Someone else suggested the same, widening it...Thats a bit more work than I'm willing to take on. Maybe on the next one, lol... Quick short update: Well, tonight I did some cleanup on the cutting and cut out the filler piece from the spare doors. Here is what the final will look like: I taped it together to check the wb and some other stuff. WB will be at 11-5/8" overall (chassis currently set at 12" so it looks a bit odd). Body is wedged onto chassis though. I'd like to drop the body another 1/4-1/2" which will require shortening the chassis a bit. Once the rear wheels move forward a bit and I open up the flares it will look better. Still, I like it so far! One issue I see is that the rear doors wont have the rear door gap half way down where the filler is. Any idea how to groove that line easily? Also ordered styrene sheets in various thickness', glues, filler and misc stuff. Expecting that end of this week so maybe I'll get started on the gluing this weekend. Woo-Hoo! |

Got door handles? I think you should get rid of the door between the main body and the bed. It makes it look far to long imo.

| thanks. would look better with bruiser axles... Any chance I can get a set of the C's you made up? I can get the rest together myself as i'm probably going to narrow them anyway. I can deal with your machinist directly too to get a set if you okay that. Quote:

Yeah, once I have the body peices all attached into one body I'll fill the extra doors and shave the handles too. There will only be 2 doors per side...quad cab. I like how long it is though...
