| Another Brat Build
Inspired by difuser's MSD Ute Prototype Re-Deux of a Subaru Brat, which happens to be my favorite body I had to have one... Difusers thread MSD UTE Prototype Re-deux It was time to retire the beat down gwagon body anyway. Few days ago I received a package... got my string out ready to cut mock up looked good glued up and ready for filler glued, filled and ready for a coat of primer to check bodywork... thats where I am as of today, subaru brat extended cab, lol. Plans are minor: -gwagon chassis will be cut in half and extended. -shock towers removed, switching to shorter touring car shocks like I have on my range rover. They work very well. -I'll reuse my beadlocks and all suspension as is. It works, why change it. -will add a receiver for my synthesized radio -paint is likely to be white with orange wheels and graphics, like this: and yes, I will run the seats in the back...other than that and the hilift jack from the gwagon this will be short on scale details and wont have an interior... thanks again to difuser for the inspiration! |

looks good! i can't wait to get working on my BRAT i've had sitting in my collection of "would like to do" projects... what kind of chassis are you using on this? because the BRAT bodies are relatively short, even with the extended cab.... |

With the extended cab the wheelbase on this body is 11.5" so its pretty much open to any chassis. I am reusing my gwagon chassis but cutting it in half and extending it about an inch to the brat wheelbase. The chassis is a TheScaleShop chassis made for the 10.6" gwagon wb. |

Niiiice start That paint was a veeeeery tight second place on my choice for color. Are you going to void the rear doors entirely then? I see the handle shaved and the door line filled. The ideas sound good can't wait to see this progress. |

you never know, the spoiler could give it added downforce to help it stick to the trail or be a windbreak for a gooseneck trailer? Either way it is looking good, I dig that seventies white and orange color scheme. but c'mon, no sunroof? |

Pablo, were going to do a intervention you can't stop building on your own. You need to get the Amigos together and do some crawling. Maybe that Malibu spot? Take those new rigs and the video camera, get some sunshine and fresh air. Your suffering fro acute crew cab sickness. |

thanks guys. no t-tops...this rig will need all the roof strength it can get, mwahahahhaa... thanks. I like long wheel base rigs. 11"-12". crew cabs are one of the few ways to get that in a 1/10 scale rig. they do look cool too... Quote:

Videos are awsome. Your Forestry truck climbs really well! You have some pretty spectacular builds. I am sure this one won't be any different. Subscribed! |

Damn man you are a machine with these scaler's lol. You have anything else to look forward to after work? lol Great idea, I always loved the older brats. My bro still has an '81 wagon that runs. We used to beat the crap out of it. Subaru's are tough little bastards. I killed mine though - blew the timing tower going 85 on the highway. Didn't throw the belt but would have cost way to much for a $1000 car. Got $200 trade, lol.

chipping away at it... did some bodywork sanding and paint, no pics really...need more filler/sanding. this is the donor gwagon chassis as it was this morning... and how it sits...now mocking up some splice plates I made from a spare gwag chassis I had (that didnt work well). I was able to match up some of the holes on the splice plate to the cut rails and keep the wb intact. I forgot to cut down the shock towers earlier today and thats making the body sit about 3/4"-1" higher than it will in the end. The bottom of the body will be just below the top of the chassis rail mid-chassis. surprisingly, the wheel wells fit the tire diameter perfectly-no cutting necessary. |
