Heres an Update as of this afternoon on Clampy..! As stated in an earlier post, as awesome as the RC4WD T-Rex 60's are, they just weren't going to work on Clampy ( they won't mount up correctly to an OG hilux frame, no matter WHAT I tried to do), SO Off the rear one came, and In went a shaved and straight axled TLT rear unit.. After thinking about how to do the next step involved with Clampy, I started figuring, and taking all kinds of measurments, and heres what happened next.... Can we say FULL DOORJAMBS..... To create, cut , file, sand, install, and final sand both door jambs took me 5 hours to make... It was ALOT of extra work, but this extra little step, will make ALL the difference in the overall look of the truck, once its all painted.... Then I got another idea for the front end to tie the loose hanging front fenders together.... This truck NEEDED a radiator core support..!!!! I also got more parts today, in the mail, so there will be an update tomorrow- stay tuned..!!!! |

Awesome creativity! It's the first time I have seen any of that done before. Very cool. Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

be careful. slippery slope...you'll soon be building a motor like Mr. Villena does... great looking work. The little details always 'make' the truck in my opinion. |

Wont you be affraid of giving it some stick what with all the hours you will have put into it? i'm not knocking your work in any way big respect for putting so much time and effort into a build. Keep up the great work neil |

Awesome progress! That thing will be sick when it's done. I have been losing patience with styrene lately but never had the patience to do all that!! Plus, I like to beat the snot out of my rigs. |

Hey Guys, THANKS for all the great responses..!! This has been a REALLY fun build so far....Sometimes, I enjoy building them more than I do driving them - thats why Clampy's getting SO much detail work... It was mentioned in an earlier thread if i thought it would survive out on the trails.., ( or If I'd really "push it" out there..) and I'm pretty confident in saying, It'll do just fine, and Oh yes..,it WILL get driven..!!! All the detail stuff I've been doing has been reinforced as much as possible for strength..as long as it dosen't take a 30 foot tumble down a rock trail, Clampy will be fine..!! Todays progress was simple, but all stuff that needed to get done..!!! Grille Before...... Grille about 2 hours AFTER......... Yup, I removed the material from behind the actual grille "slats" so you can see the "radiator"..... Next thing was to start the chassis work.. I installed a set of turned down TLT shocks, and installed the spare tire, as well as made a flat aluminum plate that finishes off the rear end of the frame.. Well, thats it for now.., I've got alot done so far, but still have a TON left..!!! Next is to start planning the transmission setup (using an RC4WD R2, because of its compact design) and then start the floorpan buildup..!! Thanks again for all the positive feedback.. I've been there. I second that this mod to the grill is a PITA, but worth it. |
