Those are great color choices, the wagon especially. I think maybe that but with a used/faded look. Here is where I am at right now with the willys. Still have to finish the front fenders where they wrap down alongside the grill, but all in all it's close. Here's a pic.

Looking great. As far as paint goes, I would stay with a weathered two-tone look. Personally I wouldn't go with black but that's just me.

All the color suggestions I posted were intended to be 'weathered', not new looking.

My favorite is also the white/red wagon...

There is one of these that roams around here in Pittsburgh, it is opwned by an old guy that has probably had it forever.. It is a faded out original red, with some wear spots showing through to the primer.. they are in the usual spots... as well as a few shiny spots where the oils from ones hands have polished it a bit... maybe that is they way to go. wish I had a pic of it...

Will try to get a mock up photo tonight for ya, after I finish the fenders. Faded Red and cream is the color I am going to use. Would love to see a lexan version of this because it will break if hit hard enough against something, just like any hard body. Thanks again for the compliments.

That's probably one of the coolest rc's I have ever seen, can't wait to see this finished.

What type of suspension is going under it?

I built it to go on my Hilux highlift, I have some ideas on wheels, got some rc4wd tires, scale shocks, etc. Will hopefully post some pics here soon. My extended can blackfoot body just looked to small on the highlift chassis.

Wow....I think you are about to set a new threshold to reach. I am truly in awe of you guys that can do this. I am about to start on my first scaler and this will really inspire me.

Yeah I want to but the sticker price is a little high for my budget right now. Looking around to see if I can find something.

I've seen people modify the hummer wheels to look like old steelies with great success. Hummers would be good on there too.

If you used 1.5 wheels, like mini cooper wheels and reduced some 3.7" tall 1.9's you'd have a 3" tire...

You dont lose much clearance overall but you do need to be careful where you place your tires or you'll catch the pumpkin. More so on the WK as its bigger than the TLT pumpkin...

Pablo, you read my mind. Looking for some hummer wheels in the wanted section. I figure sanding off all the bolts, making it a five lug and adding some scale hubs will do the trick, and painting them cream to match the body.

WOW this is an awesome build. Its amazing how far the scale scene has come, especially with styrene. I remember a couple years back if you did a drop bed you were the man...now you have guys scratch building entire bodies.

Got a coat of primer on it today and mocked it up on the chassis. I managed to get it a little lower than it is in the photos. I picked up a set of hummer wheels that I'm going to modify to look like original steel wheels. Do you guys like the red oxide primer look, it's growing on me. What do you guys think?

Got the body mounted, all hidden so no holes in the body. I am still working on making the body as smooth as I can before paint. New dilema, where in the world am I going to find headlights for this thing??? Anybody got an ideas? They are about 3/4 inch holes.

as good as you are with styrene you should be able to order up a set of the tamiya hilux lenses and make some cans that fit them and fit into ure sockets.

3/4" is only slightly bigger than a 7" headlight at 1/10 scale. as above, you could do the hilux headlights. you might have to make a bezel or something to fill the hole if its a tad too small though.

you could also go this route but you'd have to make lenses too.

the hilux is the best way to go as you can get the chrome bucket and the lens.


why dont you fab up some buckets out of styrene and just leave wires dangling out of them, lol... then you could just throw some offroad lights on the bumper...

I love the missing light idea! Let me get this sucker painted and see what she looks like. I think I am going to go the hilux route with the lights, and I can fab up a bezel no prob. I will post some pics of the wheels that are going on it. As far as the tranny, it is smack dab against the hood right now so no raising will happen:-(. I have a few ideas though to get the tranny higher. Will keep you posted.
