1.9 Willys Jeep Pickup project!
This is just a teaser photo because I can't show you everything but I have always wanted to do this and now is the time. After looking at scratch builds on this site, I had to go through with it. All I can tell you right now is the body is styrene mostly, with a sign foam roof (easy to carve). It is going on my high lift, 11 inch wheelbase. The body is 100 percent scale but I did make the bed a little taller, looked better.I will add more pics as it comes along. Good things come to those who wait.

jetboat 10-31-2008 08:08 AM

if it comes out good.... send that sucker to a body maker and pull some lexan versions.... Ill buy 2!!!

F-150Highlift 10-31-2008 09:49 AM

It looks like it should turn out very good. The only problems I am having is the cowl area and windshield pillars, but I have an idea that I will attempt tonight. I would love to mass produce it so everyone could have one.

STANG KILLA SS 10-31-2008 10:22 AM

enough with the crayons! bust out the styrene and x-acto!

F-150Highlift 10-31-2008 07:35 PM

Oh Cory, the crayons have been long gone. Here is another teaser, I can't show you this all at once, this is going to be my pride and joy so I'm taking the time to makes things correct. Here is the finished passenger side door for you to feast your eyes on.

Got the cab mostly done and the bed sides, made one rear fender last night too. Will post some pics tonight.

I am pretty darn good at the Ol Styrene as well, but I have been limited to its strength at times. Is this going to be sturdy enough?

Do you think you lucked out on the lines being mostly straight and not angular?

Just curious as I am debating building a scratch TJ for mine.

51WillysJeep 11-05-2008 11:04 AM

Hey Man, Awesome build idea you've got here ..! I've always liked the Willys pickup trucks too..! Obviously the door picture shows me you know what your doing with styrene, can't wait to see more progress..!!! "thumbsup"

F-150Highlift 11-05-2008 05:57 PM

These are some pics of the cab and bed. I have to still make a rear fender, floor and tailgate for the bed. Front end, fenders and hood should be done by the weekend I hope if I can put some time in it. Strength is great, reinforced all areas that were glued together from the inside.

pantablo 11-05-2008 06:12 PM

AWESOME! Nice 58 flattie! I'll take a bunch too! Once you get that done, how about the Utility Wagon. My Dad owns a 1:1 1962 Willys Utility Wagon I've been trying to get from him for years. Nice work!

kwkride 11-06-2008 05:19 AM

That is some really impressive styrene work there! Great job! "thumbsup"

Got a little done on it. The bed is pretty much done other than the round tube for the rails. Hood and grill are done and working on front fenders.

Simply amazing work. Those old Willys are so damn cool, you're gonna have a ton of guys who are gonna want to buy that from you! Can't wait to see how this build ends up.

jetboat 11-10-2008 07:40 AM

I'll go ahead and put myself in line for a body...

MoParmonster 11-10-2008 12:18 PM

all i can say is WOW, amazing work"thumbsup"

F-150Highlift 11-10-2008 04:42 PM

What do you guys think for paint choices? I reall want to go the beater look, faded worn black paint with primer coming through in spots. What do you think? I want it to look as real as I can so a little "age" would help make it look more realistic. Your thoughts. Finished front fenders, now onto pre-paint bodywork. Will get pics up soon.

pantablo 11-10-2008 05:28 PM

I think the faded look will be the most appropriate finishing touch for this build. I think I'd personally not do black though as that color tends to hide some of the detail work that you'd want to show off on this rig.

a quick search yielded some nice original colors, which weathered would look awesome IMO.
my favorite is the two tone
