Just spend most of last night and this morning reading all 32 page. Awesome build and glad to see that it is approaching completion.
Would like to see what you do for the scale chassis that you spoke about.
I hope to get to working on the new chassis over the winter. Assuming all goes well i hope to have the same accuracy on the chassis that i have on the body.

Why not? that's the best part! LOL! actually i'll keep it clean for a little while, at least until i get all the details finished this winter. but nex year all bets are off!

Thanks! It was nice meeting you as well.

Thanks man! I like telling that story.

A lot of killer creations, but Metal Mashers had the over the top details!

Ultra realistic trail damage!
Well if we have the comp again next year i'll be sure to stop by and say hi!

It seems to be a real inner!!

Maybe I missed this part but what kind of aluminum get it?

You had this stuff at home or bought?

Where?
The color was very random, i just grabbed a can of paint off the shelf. I was hoping the inside would look real, that is what i was shooting for. The aluminum is the same thickness as disposable cooking sheets so you can get it at your local grocery store but i get mine in a roll from Dick Blick on-line. it's called tooling foil

It's still in pretty good shape Walt. you know you can stop over any time and check it out. we can even wheel the creek trail.

LOL! that's funny!

Well here is a bit more updating

When i got to the East coast scale challenge i still had some work to do. i needed a seat in order to get the scale points for the interior. being limited on supplies, since i was at the camp grounds, I did the best i could.

I started with some thin plastic to get the size and shape

Then i made some stands to support the seat

Next was some foam to give it thickness

Then the "vinyl" was applied

It worked, and doesn't look at that bad if i say so myself.

Next i needed some accessories. I put a bolt up threw the bed floor for the spare

Then to mount the other accessories i made some small hooks and poked them through the floor

Then it was time for the comp!

During the first course i had a little tussle with a log.

Then during course 2 i added some character to the passengers door.

and proved why they are called "rockers"

It was a rough course as the rest of the pics show

the last 2 courses did not do any more body damage but were just as fun!

finally here are some poser shots

in all it performed very well, the body held up good and next season i'll be ready for some more comps!

This is awesome. Great work! About how many runs can you make before the body is completely ruined?

I'm not sure as this is the first Toyota i built like this. Check back after next season and you'll find out

I can say that my scout is actually holding up surprisingly well after a whole season of competition and occasional back yard bashing. Now i try to be easy on it while not in competition and our courses tend to be pretty mild for class 1 so i'm not beating on it hard but it still takes a licking here and there. Honestly if you treat it like a real street driven truck, and don't flog the snot out of it, it should last a long time.

Oh and here is my scout build if your interested.

Class 1 Scout (Another aluminum body!)

Random Person - "What did you do this weekend?"
Me - "Oh, I spent half my Saturday reading/scanning thru 33 pages of an RC build thread."
Random Person - "Excuse me? Why?"
Me - "Don't ask unless you want to spend half your Sunday doing the same."

HA! Awesome work - I was shaking my head at what had to be painstaking time creating such small details such as hood supports! Then you take it up a notch further on the next page!
Inspiration turned to dauntation (my new self-made word). Think I'll just have a beer.

LOL! that has the be the best reply i've read in a long time! I guess it's a compliment to say i am responsible for someone wasting half a day reading a thread

Well i don't have much progress but i did do a little bit.

A while back i got a set of the new 1.55 PitBull Growlers from Dez but the only wheels i have are RC4WD's 1.7 Steelies so i figured what the heck and tried them anyways. They fit pretty good.

They only odd thing was that they partially started to squeeze out the back side

They seem to be holding well so i'm not that worried about it.

Then i test fit them on the truck

Now if you compare the old wheels and tires,

To the new ones, you can see that even thought they are a little wider, they tuck into the fenders more.

Then before i took it out again i fixed the front drivers side fender and cleaned the dirt off to get a better look at the damage from the last comp.

Then i took it out for a little testing and some poser shots

They work amazingly well and look much better especially for a class 1 truck. I didn't add any weight when i put the wheels together but i think i'm going to go back and add it. I like the heavier wheels

Well that's all i get for now.
