Simply outstanding. Just a week ago in Walmart the wifey comes up to me and tells me " you should make a body out of this for your crawler" and shows me a baking tin. LOL.. I told her she was crazy, NO ONE would be able to do that, ESPECIALLY ME.. lol, Guess I gotta show her this. Simply amazing man, outstanding work. |

Thanks for the compliments! Sorry for being so slow on updates fellas. Ben kind of busy with other builds. Well here is some progress I took a brake from the body and started on the chassis this is only a temporary frame just to get it rolling. I have something up my sleeve for the final frame. I began with the standard split 1/2" bent tubing and added cross supports and spring mounts. The front ones I bend by hand then shaped and drilled them. the rear ones were simply cut from scrap 1/2 square tubing I took some liberties from the 1:1 chassis. this one is narrower in the rear and the taper is in the wrong spot but i'll be using TLT axles so to keep it simple I positioned the springs in the same plane. Next I formed the springs then I slid them in the mounts using some fuel tubing as a bushing. this should provide ample movement with the spring then I made up some shackles and mounted them by drilling a hole for the front spring then welding a piece of tubing to the frame for the rear spring It looked pretty level when done Then I dropped it on the axles for a test fit of course I needed a flex shot Then just for kicks I dropped the bed on to see how it looked It will sit lower when its done plus i'll be running slingers which are a bit taller. Now for something completely different for the drivetrain. My goal with the truck was always to be as scale as possible so for that i needed a way to completely hide the running gear. this meant the smallest motor and gear box I could find without sacrificing to much power. I did some research and figured since I will only be crawling, a 1/18 brushless system would be the way to go. So I shopped around and settled on the most powerful Tekin I could find, the mini rage extreme 8kv now for a tranny I was going to make my own using pinion gears but a good friend gave me a better idea I've seen people use cordless drill gear boxes before but they would have been to big for the motor. the cordless screwdriver is perfect as it used a 380 size motor and has a separate planetary gear assembly I started bu pulling the running gear out Just to show how small the mini rage is, it is almost dwarfed by the 380 motor! to make the brushless work all I needed to do was remove the 380 screw on the brushless with some washers for spacers Then slid on the pinion. it's not exactly the right size for the shaft but still went on without trouble then I removed the screwdriver bit adapter by cutting it then splitting it with a chisel. Here is a shot of the gears from the output shaft. notice they are metal. nice! the next set is plastic but seem very stout Here it is all assembled. the only problem with the planetary drive is that there is no assembly hardwhere. it was held together by the case. I have it taped up for now but i'll show how i handled the problem later And just for comparison, here it is beside a stock motor. I should be able to hide that in a styrene 22r easy Time to hit the sack |

Awesome update. I tried the fuel tubing idea before and it has not held up. If you bind up the leaf springs enough they will either cut through the tubing or the springs will come off all together. I have found the chino mod to be the best with the tightening of the leaf spring eyelet to limit slop to be a better solution long term. |

Totally awesome build!!! Some advise on the brushless. 8000kv will probably shred that planetary? You never know. Fiago makes a planetary just for high power brushless motors. Way to go, using a small brushless. Saves alot of room. |
