Default X-trail fj40

Well version #6 now of my AX10...

My dad is from Guam and had a '75 TLC which was shit brown, so i named it the Guam Bomb. It was a pretty mellow build so I'm only going for a 'similar' look, because I want it to perform better than it looks.

He owned it before dig. cams, so these are what I have to work with. I dug through my pictures for hours... I'll have to see if he's got any more of it.

I've got a lot of work to do still, but here is my progress so far.

For the rack, I got two of those wild bird feeders cut them up and joined them with heat shrink tubing.

Here it is as of tonight with the new tires from S.D.I. and the body mounted. I don't know if my work bench is not level or what.
I will be lowering the front of the body just a little bit to level it out.

Plans are, fake rings on the wheels, bumpers (not sure if I'll do the HPI or try and make some), gas cans, hilift and a few other things. Oh, and I'm leaving the wheelbase how it is. :-P

Thanks for looking.

looks great. couple things I would change or add:
-smaller spare will leave room for dual gas cans like your dads.
-do your own bumpers and try to do the front hitch. that looks really cool (may have to borrow that idea, lol)
-get a body pen and outline the body panels. Makes the lexan body more dimensional.

it looks really good in brown, and good that its painted on the outside so its dull. Clever macgiver'ing of the roof rack.

Thanks Pablo!

I think the flash was washing the pics out a bit, because I do have the body lines outlined with a razor point sharpie. I agree with the smaller spare, but the Outcropper is what I had laying around.

I need to get the materials for the bumpers, hitch and gas can holders.

I still want to meet up with you guys at Vasquez sometime. I'll be bringing this version of my truck when I do.

Of course you are going again when I'm out of town.
I'll be at Truckhaven with in the 1:1. One of these days and I'll be able to see if I can keep up with your kid on the trails.

I've seen worse messes of wire. At least its all up front away from the spur and pinion! Seen people get wire wadded up in them before.

My wheels are 0 offset and the front & rear fenders sit right in the middle of the tires. I'll get a pic tonight though.

I'm debating on painting the lip of the wheels silver (like chino63 on his hilux, and how pop's FJ actually looks) or putting some fake steel rings on them and leaving them unpainted. Any suggestions?

They are stock AX-10s. I had it set up in droop (since I got the x-trail), but didn't like the fact that there was no up travel. It obviously made the ride very rough so I actually cut the springs provided with the x-trail in half and put them on both sides of the piston. I'm much happier with how it handles this way.
