Default PROJECT: Ultimate Tamiya Pajero Build

So I am starting to get bored of my Tamiya Pajero. I was debating whether to sell it or to build it up. As with this thread you will see I picked the latter. Lets see what comes out of it.....

Here it is stock:

Project ideas:
Body lift (almost complete)
Suspension lift
RC4WD tires
Axial beadlock rims (black)
Proline roof rack with both of the accessory bundles
custom bumper/skid
winter camo paintjob with black trim

I will keep updated photos on how my project is coming.

I also forgot to mention that I am also in the process of either finding Mattracks or possibly building them for this project. If anyone has any advice on where to find some or how to build some, it would be much appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing where you take it.

I also just started a pajero build but wont post up a build thread until I have a bit more to show...

Progress is going well. Found some mattracks. Got the new wheels mounted and the front A-arms modded for extended travel. Going to mount the new shocks. I made my first boo-boo. Krylon paint and standart enamel paint react horrifically when put on the same surface. Unfortunately the body died in a molten and disformed way. So now its going to be anything other than a pajero. Thats as far as I have come. The body set things back substantially.

*UPDATE* By the grace of who knows, my friend happens to have an extra pajero body just sitting in his basement that he gave to me. Life goes on!

Did you get the stub axles with the Mattracks? I tried these once. I used a dremel to pull the CV cup (pressed on), off the shaft of the long 10.xx mm hex axles that come with the mattracks.
Then used a set screwed on CV cup after passing the axle shaft through bearings on my project vehicles axle carrier.

Curious what your plans are for installing them?

They are the RadioShack H2 Mattracks. I bored out the hole of the mounting hub and used a bolt spacer that I machined to fit in the bored out hole and screw onto the existing hub. As for the smaller hexagonal hub drive, I used another bolt spacer, chopped a good portion of it off, and cut a channel for the hub rod to drive it. I am actually going to post how I did in in the wheels and tires section of this forum soon. I have two more wheels to go.

PS. Duratrax Evader EXT buggy front shocks work perfectly as mod shocks on the cc-01/xc-01/tl-01 After this project and after finishing the motorhome project me and my friend are going to do matching tl-01 stadium raider 1.9 builds with H2 and H2 SUT bodies to honor and remorse the cancelling of the real life Hummer brand.

ITS DONE!!!! Well.... almost.... Its drivable. Very sexy too. I have yet to paint all the little extras and I have a special idea for the liscence plate. I also have to make the custom front brush guard and mount the front winch. Here are some pictures. Tell me what you think!

tires look great on that body.
what happened to the mattracks, lol? I dont like the idea of them but was curious how they'd look and function.

you going to smooth out the edges of the fenders? what about paint? Are you going to do any more detailing of the body?

love the red lights!

The mattracks are in the works. They have a different hex size and require a longer hub shaft, which I am brainstorming at the moment. I do still need to do some finishing touches on the fenders. It actually is painted matte grey but the lighting and the camera don't show it very well. Other than a front bumper, adding the rest of the pro-line goodies, and painting it, there isn't much left to do.

Lookin good! Did you have to use travel limiters to keep the tires from rubbing? I am trying to think of way to make Flatirons fit on my CC-01 chassis with an FJ body and that seems like an option...

The proline roof rack looks great on the Jero! Keep it up!

love it! have you thought about painting the top a flat black or something, maybe when you make the front brush guard, you can make some sliders and paint those black, the primer with the black would look killer!

I might do a skid. Maybe sliders too, I think you convinced me on those. I upgraded the standard Tamiya LED's to 10mm 0.06 watt mega LED's in the main headlights. If you briefly glace at it, it will leave sun spots on your eyes. It lights up my houses whole upstairs. I got some 1 watt LED's. I had to order them from China. They have heatsinks on them. I would worry that they would melt the headlight lenses. They would also burn out the stock Tamiya LED controller I have in there. I would have to build my own PC board. Good thing I took that electronics class last year! Im going to be in Sand Hallow in southern Utah this week and will throw together some movies down there. I will post them when I get back!

Between the body lift, fender cut outs, and duratrax shocks, I have no rubbing issues what so ever. The wheels tuck perfectly inside the wheel wells. I think it will be visible in the video. The Duratrax shocks allow about the same articulation as the original shocks, but with a third of an inch more clearance. I like to keep the realism.
