Hello everybody I'd like to present you my first real scaler. It's a Toyota Hilux on an RC4WD Trail Finder chassis. I had the chassis layin' around for some time but didn't know what to do with it. But then I got a Hilux body for a good price an the idea was born. I used an RC4WD R2 tranny and a Carson truck motor and a couple of TLT axles I had layin' around. Later I'm gonna change the motor to a 55T but for the moment I keep the Carson. The wheels are self made on my lathe and mill. The tires are Trail Doctor XL's. But now i'm gonna show you some pictures first: The wheels. The front bumper is out of brass tubig and solid rod and soldered together. The spare wheels carrier is out of steel and brazed together. The wheel is a missproduction because the center hole is excentric. So it goes on the back as a spare. The rockers are made from solid steel rod and brazed together. The whole chassis. The exhaust is made from pieces of brass and copper tubing I had layin' aroud the shop. And here's a picture of the tool I made to drill the holes in the wheels. It consists of a mini lathe chuck and a pinion from a mobile industrial compressor. It's simple but works pretty well.:-P That's it for the moment. Sorry for the couple of mistakes but my english isn't the best.

Wheels are great looking, all on a manual lathe? Ingenious little fixture for drilling the holes, I see you put slots for the drive pins, that's what I did on the wheels I made, a lot easier than milling out the hexes. You have a better grasp of the English language than many I have seen.

I dig the wheels as well.....can you put up some better pictures of how your mini-lathe drilling fixture works?? Last edited by C*H*U*D; 04-09-2009 at 11:01 PM.

Sure. No problem. I'm gonna make some pictures later. But it isn't very complicated.

Her are some pictures of the drilling device. It's pretty simple. I used parts I had layin' around the shop. I used a 40mm aluminium as stand an drilled a 20mm hole in it with the lathe. Then I took the pinion which fitted into the hole nicely. The lathe chuck is screwed to the pinion and fixed with some worm screws. This screw is used for the indexing. If you losen it you can turn the pinion and after you fasten the screw again. The screw fits nicely into the slots in the pinion. So there isn't much play. This is how it is fixed in the vise on the mill. Drilling a hole with the center bore. Losening the screws. Turning the pinion and fastening the screws again. Drilling a second hole. And a little funshot at the end. It didn't turn out to good but still looks quite funny. It shows nearly all the moves to do whle drilling two holes. ![]() That's it.

That's fantastic!! When I saw the first picture, I thought that screw was being used for indexing, but wasn't sure. That is a great idea

SA---WEET truck! The bumpers are great and the exhaust is a nice touch..... Even though there are alot of Toyota builds, each and every one has it's own style and identity.....I can't get enough of 'em.
