|  Rebuilding Pepe: Griz's 1.9 TTC F-100
If yer not familiar with Pepe here is the original thread. Clicky There were a few things that bugged me about this truck besides the fact that it never got finished. I wanted to change the front suspension because it had a ton of axle swing and I didn't like that. I wanted to put Axial axles under it because I am always wondering when the TLT ring and pinion will shred under the power of the 7T Cobalt Puller. The real inspiration for this came from East End Machining. I won a prize pack from them in Omaha and their skid (SC-022) inspired me to get to work. I only had to shave 0.050" off the width of the skid and drill two new holes to make it work on the Reign R/C K2-5 chassis. Now the suspension kicks ass. Thanks East End Machining.  I tend to talk (type) too much and I have alot of work to do before Saturday's Top Truck Challenge competion. So I will post some pics to catch up on the work that's been done and not talk so much. Pepe will win this competition if I get him finished in time.  |

I started by building new front frame rails to narrow up the width and allow me to mount the shocks on the outside of the frame. On a scaler with stock wheelwells the inboard mounting of the shocks is not a big deal as you don't really notice. On Pepe with the big open wheelwells it really bugged me that there were no shocks there. I also worked on the engine compartment tubing to make it look more like the 1:1. |

Here is the East End Machining skidplate. It's going to work really well in there. A big reason for using the skid was that the wide ass tires were hitting the links and limiting steering. If I had "normal" tires that would be an issue. The triangulated lower links solved the steering issues and you can see there is plenty of room for the front shocks as well.

I took an extra TLT upper link mount that I had made for somebody but he backed out on me, and with some new lower mounts it fit right on the Axial axle. The holes for the links were even in the right spot to utilize the Axial 3-link mount for extra strength and it was almost exactly the right height. Looks a fair bit like the 1:1 I think. |

Now we're getting somewhere. The front tube work isn't quite square to the world but it's ok. It looked square before I welded it. |

Needed a rear tow point as well. It took a while to decide what to do on the rear end and this is what I came up with. I think it's got a neat look and should be pretty stout. I'd argue that I can call it a rear "bumper" as well for the scale points. |

That front bumper came out GREAT. and the rear tow point i would call a bumper :thumbsup:

Then I started on the dash and added the windshield down-bars. I also thought I'd do some styrene work on Pepe. I've admired the styrene work that I've seen on the site for a long time so I thought I'd try my hand at some things like the radiator and tranny cooler. |

Pepe needs badass driveshafts to handle the 7T Cobalt Puller so I built some Maxx shafts using Jason's idea. I built a V-block out of 1/2" square tube to hold the yokes when I drill them and it worked great. No more worries about broken ring and pinions and no more driveshaft worries.
