| minisaba's FIRST ONLINE BUILD
Hey everyone, I been working hard in order to gather some funds for this project. This is my first build, so any comments are welcome. This white truck was a birthday present for my dad. I build it myself with parts that I had and purchased. This is what got delivered today for my own truck. Two boxes and more are on their way. I am trying to buy mostly everything new, I have some spare axial axles that I have not used in a while so those are going on this project. Hope you guys like it and I will try to update this as most as I can. Last edited by minisaba; 09-12-2010 at 01:58 AM. |

This are most of the parts that I have so far. I'm still in need of some black wheels and several other parts. |

Today I worked on this for a while. I started to cut pieces of styrene to fill mostly everything. While the styrene dried, I decided to dismember one of beds. Since I have three more, one will not kill me. I filled the rest with abs cement so that I can sand everything some other day. I also started to fill the back part of the cab. I still need to cut the mounting tabs from the cab to the bed, since I will not be needing them. Here I have What I completed for today's work. Got some of my bed finished. Its not perfect but it's still needs to be done. You Can also see the my wheelbase will be a little more than 14. Hope to get some feedback even if its bad. Today I had a few hours to work on the cab. Started to sand and fill the roof of the cab. Right now the roof is lined up perfectly. The sides are filled, although I still need to square off the back windows on both sides. I still need a few more hours of work on the cab, before I set it with some primer. |

What did you use to fill the gaps? Should make the rig a quad cab long bed.

I filled it with abs cement. It take some effort to sand it but it makes the cab a lot stronger. When i sanded the abs there was some imperfections that I handled with Bondo body filler. On my previous truck I also used the same method, my dad gave it a beating and it held up fine. It was his first time with and RC and he was throttle happy. This is my first time trying to do a drop bed though. I have two other bed, I might try a long bed, but right now it has a wheel base of almost 14 inches.

So today I got a small package from RPP. I decided to spend the money on some fender flares for my truck. I was not happy spending fifty bucks for them in the beginning, but after mocking them up I am extremly happy with them. I decided to get them because the wheels stick out to much for my taste. Here are some pics of it. I am waiting to get this ready for some paint. I want to finish some small details that I've been lazy to finish, but I plan on getting it done soon. I want some black wheels for this truck but I have been indecisive on which wheels to get. More to come as soon as I figure some stuff out. |

Just another update. I got a used set of axial wheels and proline flat irons. I cleaned the wheels and tires. I started wet sanding the body yesterday and finished it today. I applied some primer earlier and notice some more imperfections. Started to sand again and gave it another coat of primer. I was not entirely happy with the sanding but I am tired and don't feel like doing any more body work on this (well for now). I got a few coats of black gloss paint and I actually like how it looks. I am working on either painting the bumber black, or installing the summit bumper on it. I was also thinking of replicating the summit bumper out of brass and mounting it to the chassis, that way I can hook it up with a winch. Well, all comments are welcome, good or bad. Enjoy |

Body looks good! If you are up to it - you can get rid of the waves on roof with a sanding block. This will knock down the high spots.

I am willing to do it, I just wanted to get some paint on it because I was starting to annoyed of having all the parts in a box. I have been thinking about selling it or giving it to someone, but at the same time I want to finish it for myself. The roof will only take an hour or so of more sanding for it to be better. I mounted the lenses and front summit bumper on it, but I will have pictures of it tomorrow. Thanks for viewing.

| During this last weekend, my parents went on a roadtrip and I kidnapped my dad's truck. Since the last time he used it, he beat the beauty out of it, I gave it a light sanding, and a recoat of white. I also put in some new decals since the ones he had were pretty scratched. I also order another set of fender flares from RPP since I loved how they look on mine. I am still waiting for my windows to come from rpp, and some punisher shafts. |

Thanks guys for all your comments, I am really trying to get this done as soon as possible. I am also trying to make a trailer to tow my JK around(it weights a ton). Today I went to hobby people to get some music wire or metal rod what ever you want to call it, to make some steps (sliders). I also got some t-maxx driveshafts to see if I would like how they looked, they are way to bulky and out of scale. So in the next couple of days I will be ordering those punisher shafts that I been avoiding to buy( rear needs to be 6-6 1/2 inches long). At least I will not have to worry about replacing those. Plus the way I see it 80 dollars is cheap compare to making my own and having to replace them every other week. More updates to come soon. I am finally learning how to weld (not braze). Its a good thing having a dad that has lots of tools in his garage and his 15min away. RPP still has the flares in stock. http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/rc4x-0196.htm Last edited by minisaba; 09-14-2010 at 08:15 PM. |
