Default Get those crying towels out: another D90 goes under the knife

Why, oh why? Well, because this rig looked great but kept flipping over backwards on steep climbs. Too much weight too high up too far back. Well hell, I can fix that!

Made a new rear cab wall and got it partly smoothed in. I got into a groove and didn't take any in-progress pics, but it went down like this: After the vertical part was in place, I placed a curved panel at the top of the window and the curved side panels in. That left the gaps at the corners, which i filled with pie-wedges of styrene. You can see them here:

Then layered the wedges with .005 styrene strips to reinforce and seal them before the Icing went on.

Still need to do something with the bed floor and throw some glass in, but it should perform a lot better now.

Notice the police markings and rotating light are gone. The light took too much of a beating with all the rollovers, so it's a civilian rig now.

Now for more styrene action:

Fix the fuel filler

Hacked out the bed floor and re-located the shocks to the outside of the rails

New fenderwells. I couldn't line up the wells with the tailgate as the X-Trail is too narrow and I'm too lazy to space 'em out. So cry some more about that

Still got plenty of flex. The button-head screw in the tailgate is the rear body mount.

Time to make this sucker comp-worthy. It climbs so much better as a pickup that it's going to be my scale comp rig from now on.

Bulldog winch tucked under the steering servo. It's set back far enough that it doesn't get much rock rash, but there's no room for it anywhere else.

Flares hacked off (this body's been beat so much they pretty much fell off once I started cutting) and some Flat Irons on.

I would not cry about that, That looks sick, any plans to repaint it. Keep it up. How are the rims? Are they rc4wd steel rims? they look real good on this.

I think the paint's going to stay as-is. It wouldn't last long anyway.

Rims are RC4WD Landy rims, machined aluminum.

Damn it, I couldn't find a metal fuel can anywhere.

I guess this plastic one will work:

The name coupled with the fact that it's faded to pink is sweet irony.

This should keep the winch safe

Still plenty of approach angle:

That look's way better as a pick-up truck.
I'm liking the inverted winch.

Malach, I picked it up on ebay a couple years ago. Two for 30 bucks, I think. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
