Some more stuff for this showed up today, got my backup set of wheels in, they are a little narrow for track width, but I have an idea... |
looking forward to see it complete |
So I didn't quite make that goal, yard work, and starting to paint a few bodies put me behind schedule. that and I had to order a few parts before I got to ahead of myself. I did sort out the placement of the front axle, and g0t the new panhard mount burned in. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07024.jpg http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07019.jpg Then I spent the better part of the afternoon cutting off the top hoops on the cage, and re welding them in angled in a bit more ( I didnt like the front profile once I started mocking up the front brow. ) Got one or two more bars welded in then it was time for dinner :ror: http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07031.jpg Not much of an update, but it was progress  |
Had a few minutes before I have to get ready to go to a wedding today, made a bit more progress on the cage. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/cageprog.jpg Waiting on some tabs I am having cut so I can start working on shock placement for the rear so I can start back there. |
nice "thumbsup" |
Few more parts showed up today that I didn't expect to see yet. Ill should be able to set my track width now, I need to pick up some weight so i can mount the tires to the wheels too. |
its lookin good man! what diameter steel rod are you using? |
that is 3/16th that reminds me, i need to order up some thinner stuff for some of the details.. |
Lookin real good, I love the title of this thread too"thumbsup" |
Minor update, but an important one. Needed a little wider track width and didn't trust the hex on the plastic wheels, but the look and weight are what I was looking for. So using some Vanquish hubs, I made my track width wider, and beefed up the hex all at the same time. Step one, drill out the existing holes http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...lac/wheel3.jpg bolt vanquish hub to your axle http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...lac/wheel5.jpg bolt rim to hub ( I used 1/2 x 4-40 screws ) http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...lac/wheel2.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...lac/wheel1.jpg And Bam! wider rig! I used the 350's I think? whatever the second to narrowest ones are, so I have room to go narrower or wider if needed. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...lac/front2.jpg |
Very nice on the hubs. I think I may see that in the near future for me. This thing is lookin sweet! |

the rest of my mcmaster order showed up yesterday, I have the day off today. should be able to make some progress.. |
got the rear links mocked up using some old links today and set the wheelbase. Then I spent the better part of the afternoon deciding what to do with the trans, its just to fraking big to stuff anywhere, but I need it. I decided to try and shove it as far forward as possible. I just used a 1/8th inch thick piece of aluminum, mounted that in the original spot, and mounted the trans to that. This was about as far forward as I felt comfortable witht he front driveshaft angle, and the rear shaft length. Hopefully I can fit some seats in there now, and hide that spur under the dash. Should be interesting to have a passenger side seat. I may have to be creative on that side. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ransplate1.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ransplate2.jpg |
Looking good, you do nice fab work, Why not a rc4wd GRU and a transfer case? |
what are you going to do for driveshafts? it looks similar to the situation i'm in... i stretched the front of my rig out and now at full flex the shafts are coming apart (mip's). i think i may steal your idea with the trans plate (because i realllllllly dont want to redo all of my links...) and move my trans forward too and hide the spur under the dash! before i was trying to hide it behind the seats, ill give that a try! you are just full of good ideas over here! I have hardened internals for the Axial, so I figure it's worth the hassle Quote:

Today is the day I needed to make some real progress, woke up this morning determined to have as much done as I could. taking a food break, figured I would update progress... Got the steering worked out, using a handbro's mount with the bottom hacked off, and a HB servo arm. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07089.jpg http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07090.jpg Made some good progress on the cage, got the main bars in the front and rear, along with the rear shock mounts http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07093.jpg http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07094.jpg http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07096.jpg Got the sail panels made up and burned in http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07099.jpg of course we need a flex shot http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07102.jpg The more progress I make the more I think I may only use the hood off the body, and just make flat door panels, more in line with what a KOH rig would look like. Thoughts? http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC07105.jpg Back to work, updates later... |
Great idea on the wheels Andy. Tha stance looks incredible. "thumbsup" I think the "factory" body panels give it more personality but if a KOH build is what you are going for then flat panels would fit the theme good. Either way will look good I'm sure. 8) |
