Default Just a clone, Unimog

Inspired by just Zach's SCX10 mog build. I decided I could try my hand at another 1.9 build, haven't built a 1.9 scaler since Macgyver, so thought I would give them another chance.
I was looking to build something capable, waterproof, and something that had a couple winches.

I took apart the SCX10 mud truck.

Drew up some plans and starting bending some solid rod.
Here is what I had after a few hours in the garage.

Wanted to say thanks again to Zach for the inspiring build.

Ty

Well if you know me then you know, I don't make threads as I build Im usually a little ahead.

So I got all the tube work done, got the body and interior in and all the panels laid out on the bed. Wheel base is about where I want it and the suspension seems to be about right.

From where the this build first started I ended up cutting down the rear wheel wells, they were just a hair big and the departure angle was not looking very good, after all I am looking for a little performance.

The Tech:

The tubing is 3/16 solid rod brazed with a oxy acetylene torch and safety silv.

The body is the cab of a Tamiya unimog 406, with black styrene to patch the back and for the bed panels.
The interior is cut out of a Proline CGR Blazer
The links are 8/32 all thread with Jato rod ends which will be covered with break line.
Both axles are four linked.
Traxxas touring car shocks in the rear.
Proline powerstroke scale shocks in the front.
Tamiya Hummer wheels
RC4WD 1.9 Flashpoint tires, but there may be a change in the future.
The trannsmission was flipped so the spur could be concelled under the tire.
The wheel base ended up at about 11 3/8"
To hold on the panels and body I brazed 32 3m nuts, that was fun.
The drive shafts are modded max shafts and I have know idea what is in the axles, but I know they are axial.
Enough with the talking, I went out and shot some poser shots today... All the electronics are in and everything works, I just haven't bothered to plug a battery in yet and check.

This rig is just begging for a winch or two.

Lots to come still, I can honestly say this project is not even a third of the way done.

Thanks for lookin
Ty

What tires do you use on the Jeep mud truck, I couldn't find a build thread for this rig.

Yeah never started a build thread on that on. It was just an scx10 with Jconcept wheels and HPi rock grabbers. (5 1/2" tire)
I think I have a couple other photos of it from that day...

Thanks a lot, I didn't receive the body yet, I have 1.9 Rock Lox for it, thought 2.2 would have been too big but it looks pretty good on yours.

They are a little large, but for driving in the mud and water they worked well and gave it that ridiculous look I was after.

Yeah that is the plan, there is a lot on the plate for this little one.

The XJ was only built to be a submarine. And it served its purpose well.

Well I have been slackin on the updates, especially since Rocas Rojo and that fact that I have not gotten a lot done.

Anyway, I got the tail lights and rear winch mounted, the fair lead is a little off center, but I will leave it until the very end and figure out what to do about it.

Another issue I am having is tire and wheel choice. I have been running the 1.9 flash points on 1.9 hummer wheels and now 2.0 CAC utility wheels, but I just got the 1.55 mud hawgs in the mail and stretched over the 1.9 hummer wheels they look pretty good, over the 2.0 CAC's its to much for the tire and pushes the side wall "funny"
Anyway I will let the photos talk and hear what everyone thinks.
Flash points and CACs

Mud hawgs and hummers

Oh I did finally plug her in and get some drive time in, I am really surprised it works so well, even without weight in the wheels.

Thanks for lookin
Ty
