| Camel Tophy Defender 110 build. **Teaser vid added 9/9/10**
One of the things I've always liked about the Defender 110 models, is that you had to hand build your own, and that meant you would be joining a semi-exclusive group of builders. Rumor has it that RC4WD will be producing a fairly inexpensive 110. I have to admit, I hope it doesn't happen, I like that there aren't many 110 out there. This is my first ever styrene project, I know, I should have started with something easier, but as they say, go big or don't go at all. Anyway, on to the build. I'm not trying to make a perfect reproduction but I do want it to be true to the 110's used in Camel Trophy. Here's what I'm trying to get close to. Last edited by Stburr91; 09-09-2010 at 03:12 PM. |

Hell yes man. There are not many 110s like you said, and if you pull one off you pretty much are at the top of the builders list |

Stunning job, the cut itself and the extension pieces. How did you get that nice of a bend on the roof section. When I first looked at it I thought you had cut that piece out of another body. Nice

great body mod skills. I like that you did this stretch with only one body. I would have tried it with 2 bodies.

Thanks guys, I'll have an update later tonight. Quote:
I would have liked to use two bodies, but at about $80 each, I decided to use only one. | |

Got some more work done. I started on the the bull bar and roll bar. I've read that it is very hard to get the 180 degree bends right for the bull bar, so I wanted to find an easy was of doing it. I found two jars of paint the were the perfect size, and clamped them down the correct distance apart. From there is was just simply bending the brake line around them. It was very easy, and it came out perfectly on the first try. Now just braze it up. The finished bull bar with mounting plate. |

I did a little work on the chassis. Because I have some much Axial stuff, I decided to use it for this build. I'm using a SCX chassis, which is a little sort, and can't accommodate the 13.25" wheel base, so I simply moved the rear shock hoop back. The next problem was the driveshaft is too short. I like to use the Traxxas half shafts in my Axial rigs, so I cut and glued a couple of the shafts together. Here's a few pics. You can see that the shock hoop have been moved back, and the rear driveshaft has been lengthened. Last edited by Stburr91; 08-18-2010 at 10:09 AM. |
