Default 1.9 Toyota Hilux Truggy

I am the proud new owner of a Toyota Hilux truggy. It came to me with the black and silver painted cab with no finish on the frame and tubework. I will be painting the cab a different color. The primer is drying as I type this. The frame and tubework has been painted silver. There are enough black tubework trucks running around so I decided to be a little different.

Here is a link to the build thread by PANDAbox, SCX10 Toyota Truggy

Here are the specifics on the rig currently:

- SCX10 Truggy
- LRP crawler esc
- LRP 21.5 brushless crawler motor
- Airtronics 2.4 ghz receiver
- Airtronics 94780m crawler servo
- Toyota Hilux cab
- Reign rear cab with window and cb whip antenna
- Rear cage work
- Proline shocks around(possible dual setup up front)
- Hand bros steering kit
- RC4WD 1.9 Rock Lox Tires
- RC4WD 1.9 OEM Black Steel Beadlock Wheels
- Full interior with Team3Six Scale Racing seats with driver
- 6 Rock Lights

To Do List:

- Finish flooring in interior
- Add headlights
- Change shocks to RC4WD Ultimate Scale Shocks
- Install RC4WD glass for cab - DONE
- Add decals for gauges in the dash gauge pods
- Add decals on fenders - DONE
- Change driver and add a passenger - DONE
- Put on new 1.9 wheels
- Inboard mounted servo winch
- Also a surprise to protect the finish on the cab

Here are some pictures of the truck after I received it and got it assembled.

Here are some HDR pics of the truck from it's maiden run here in TX on 8/14/10.

While the paint is drying on the new cab color, I replaced the old driver with a new driving team. A nice rig requires a driving team that is use to handle anything or new horizon that is put in front of them. So I hired a couple of guys from the starship Enterprise to pilot and naviagate my rig. Here they are trying on their new cockpit.

I got these figures at Toy R Us for under $5. They are the perfect size and are fully poseable. They also come with scale accessories. In the last pic you can see I also used their communication devices.

If you think that paint is unforgetable, wait until you see the new paint job. Get your sunglasses ready.

Watch out with the driver. Aren't the guys in the yellow uniforms usually the first to get injured/die in the show and movies?

You must not be a Trekkie. The yellow shirted lad is a young cadet that later became Capt. Kirk. The series of figures Toys R Us had on sale were the crewmembers at a young age. The passenger is young Cadet Chekov. So the only thing I have to worry about is cadet Kirk leaving alien girls panties in the truck.

Ok, get your sunglasses ready. The paint has dried enough for a test fit of the interior and tubework. What do you think of the new colors? I used the Testor's Colors by Boyd Lime Pearl for the cab. I sprayed a single coat of Testor's primer before applying the top coat. The pebbled bottom of the doors took some time to cover completely. Don't worry, the silver is just a base coat. On to the pics.

Ok, I got the glass installed and the final paint on the frame and tubework. I also wanted to see how the color combination looked with different color wheels. So here are the pics.

It started raining this eveing before I could get outside and take some pictures of the rig in the sun. So indoor pics will have to do for now. I still need to find some headlights for it.

A HDR picture

Here are some pics of what I added today.

Here is a pic of my newly applied gauge decals and passenger info decal from Ultimate Decals.

I also got my RC4WD Ultimate Shocks installed.

I also applied my experimental paint protection system. I visited a guy I know who owns an Invisibra franchise. He gave me some scraps to play with to see if they would work to protect the painted cab from rock rash. I figure if it can protect a 1:1 car from rock chips at 80 mph it surely should be able to protect the paint from the often roll over and rock scrape. Can you see the film in the pics?

Here are some pics of the rock lights in action. There are 3 lights on each side. Two lights up front, in front and behind each wheel, and one at the rear of the cab shining down on the rear wheels. You will also see the tail lights on.
