Default Project ~trugg-e-mog~

Well...I may build a scale version of this with those new Michelin replica tires from RC4WD...but in the meantime...I decided to build it into something that I could use...

I've built this and a couple other Dickie's Unimog bodies...and I've never been happy with the tires that I've tried out on them.

This is currently built with a CR01 chassis/drivetrain...w/hi clearance links, alum rear lockouts and I re-did the suspension on it.

I done away with the cantilever setup and now it's really flexy and does amazingly well off road.

It's really fun to drive !

I've tried Outcropper's, Mud Plugger's, Flashpoint's....and others....but was never happy.

I really think that the new Michelin looking tires from RC4WD...will finally inspire me to build this eventually into a SCALE Unimog.

But...for the meantime......I changed it around...and turned it into a TRUGGY...for now !

I still plan to "Weatherize" the cage...and add a winch up underneath...on my front winch bumper.

Plus...I plan on filling in the gap in the center....between the bed and the chassis.

I'll either use Tin, ALuminum...or maybe even Styrene...and then weatherize it to match.

I plan on weatherizing the frame some more too....it should look like the tanks/fender flares and steps...when I'm done.

Thanks..I can't wait to get some more of the weathering done on it !

I hand made the fuel tank that's on the driver's side...out of tin....and then I used the stock Dickie's Tank/Toolbox....on the driver's side...and on the rear axle housing !

Oh yea...I've been offroading in one before....they're SWEET !! (A guy not too far from me...deals in Mog's ....and I've been thinking about getting one for several yrs now !! )

Thanks for the comments so far guys !!

I may have to order myself a set of those MIL-SPEC ZXL 2.2 Tires from RC4WD...just for this rig !!

I might do that...and make up a set of some scale looking wheels..and finish this out with a few more "scale/Mog Correct" looking features !

The truggy part is growing on me big time now !!

Those scale michelins would be sick! Perfect tire for this build IMO.

That's what I think too !!

I'm hoping to get a set on pre-order this week sometime !

I'm also looking for some beat up....used 2.2" Landies Classic Wheels....or some similar looking wheels.

I plan on making some Unimog wheels out of them...like I did with these similar 1.9" wheels about a year ago.

Here's what I made them into...and here's the actual Unimog wheel too:

Here's the 1:1 UNIMOG WHEEL:

Here's the wheels that I made up to replicate them:

But....in the end...the 1.9" MUD PLUGGER'S were just too small for my Unimog.

I had thought about buying 2 or 3 extra 1.9" Mud Plugger's....and making up my own set of 2.2" Mud Plugger's.

In the end...I decided that I didn't want to put that much money into a set of tires that I would also have to spend quite a few hours into making them.

Who knows tho....one day...I may make up a set of 2.2" Mud Plugger's too...because I REALLY love the look of that tire...it's just too small for my liking and for any of my Mog Builds.
