old comp truck turned scale truck A few weeks ago I started to realize i wasn't going to have the Scaler I've been working on done for my local club's next comp plus i was getting burnt out working so hard on it to get it done. When i starting to think of how to cut corners to finish it I realized i needed to take a brake. Well 2 weeks ago, while i was staring at the scaler, i looked at my old comp truck that i threw together for the last scale comp and thought to myself that the dove nose, dove tail and boat sides Just were not going to cut it for a 1.9 scaler. then it hit me, I'll just cut the front and rear bars holding the fenders on, pull them out, and run the body full width! For reference here is what it looked like as a 2.2 comp truck http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSCN0116.jpg Build thread: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-ax-10-scorpion/120373-comp-tuber.html So here it is as it sat for the last scale comp running TLT axles and 1.9 flat irons http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a...3/SANY0042.jpg First task was to remove all offending body panels http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00320.jpg Then i began cutting. Off came the stinger and i pulled the front tubes out http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00324.jpg Then i did the same to the back http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00325.jpg Here is how it looked at this point http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00323.jpg And i did a test fit of the panels http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00322.jpg After the test fit i realized the tubes needed to come further apart the fit the hood in so i just cut them off all together and cleaned up the chassis tubes while they were off http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00328.jpg And i also decided to move the servo to the chassis http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00329.jpg then i re attached the front tubes and added a cross bar http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00330.jpg then some supports and test fit the panels again http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00333.jpg then onto the back were i reattached the tubing and fitted the panels, bobbed of course http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00331.jpg Then added supports, a bumper and welded the down bars to the frame http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00334.jpg Then i added a bumper to the front a little different then on the scaler. sort of a mini stinger, and test fit the grill http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00336.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00335.jpg And a winch of course http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00338.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00337.jpg Then i added sliders to fit tight under the doors taking place of the rockers http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00365.jpg Next i mounted the grill using small tabs http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00363.jpg and fitted the rest of the panels http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00364.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00367.jpg to finish the chassis i added tabs to hold the panels, a spare tire mount, electronics mount and brazed all the joints for a clean finish. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00487.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00488.jpg That is how i looked by last weekend and i'm really digging it at this point. Once the chassis was painted i reassembled it and added the electronics. the box in the back is for the LiPo http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00494.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00495.jpg Then had to test fit the painted panels http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00491.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00492.jpg WOW does that look killer!! Next was the grill. I shaved the back to open up the slots http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00493.jpg then made light buckets out of some aluminum using the originals as molds http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00497.jpg then i made lenses from the molds i made of the originals http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00498.jpg And glued them into the painted grill with lights http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00500.jpg I wasn't going to do an interior but i just had to so i whipped out a quick one using some styrene and zip ties http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00501.jpg and added a dash using more styrene and some thicker aluminum http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0001.jpg i started finishing the panels by gluing the cab sides to the back and mounted the rear fenders with lights as well http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00502.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/DSC00503.jpg and yes the taillights ate the one that will brake. i finally got the plastic figured out. the only down side it they are yellow not clear. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0004.jpg I also added breakable corner lenses up front http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0003.jpg and here it is in all it's glory with everything in place. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0005.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0008.jpg But you know what, it just doesn't look quite right.... Now this is better! http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0010.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0012.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0009.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0013.jpg NOW THAT IS BADAZZZ!!! Did you ever build a car that surprised you so much that you just can't stop looking at it? Well here are some more pics including the mandatory flex shot. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0011.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0014.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0015.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0016.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...k/IMG_0017.jpg I'm in love with this truck all over again!
