I started this build yesturday just to kill time after I got off work early. This wasnt really planned because I am working on the details of a scale Toyota Hilux body build...but thats taking some time. For this project I am trying to keep it as cheap as I possibly can, and not really sure how its going to perform with the drivetrain I am going to use. It started out really as fulfulling my daily-dose of the PBB and just decided to go build a rig based off a fellow NC'ers rig. It is going to be built mainly from this zip zap walmart crawler I bought a week ago for the axles, but am going to be using all the electronics/tranny/motor and just see what it will do. I would know if I ran it stock, but I ripped it apart instead. So the chassis might get a new drivetrain down the road depending on how it does. Onto the pics, should have more up in a day or two if I get time around work. I havent gotten too much done, I am into it 4 hours, including the layout of the chassis/measurements/etc. Chassis its based off of. It is owned by BigWoody of the NC MudDevils. (props to a sweet rig man.) The plan on one of my workbenches. The narrowed Nylint body (will be cleaned up sooner than later) What I have so far, without body. With body mounted. Axles under chassis, close to wheelbase I'll run. Pic from front, full compression. (I build all my rigs at full compression, ride hieght though will not be much higher up.) Chassis will also be notched in the frame rail to allow for full turning, but that will come later as I get more work done. Pic from the side to show profile of chassis, hopefully get more done today. Any thoughts? Its only my second tuber but will not be the last. I enjoy making these things too much. Although once I get a bender and a 220v welder, I will not be spending much time on these haha. Stephen Leach Last edited by 93yjpiece; 04-14-2006 at 01:03 PM. |

I have about 45 dollars into it at this point, including everything you see in the pictures and final build should not cost me anymore than 50 or 55. Maybe. Any sorry for poor title, just didnt have any name for it yet. Leach Last edited by 93yjpiece; 04-14-2006 at 08:20 AM. |

Thanks for the comments. I only gotta spend a couple hours on it tonight, hopefully wont be working too late tomorrow so I can do alot more. Axles are out of a crawler from walmart, Zip Zap Mini Crusher, kit was 30 dollars. Not sure if I will end up using them or not for ever, just wanna see how it comes out first. Thanks 4xAdict, its been fun so far. Although I did get to work on it some today it definately possessed the most challenging bend I have done thus far. Well bends and making one tube fit 4 others that are cut to length/etc and flow smoothly. Also to give credit where its most due, the main chassis design is made by Twisted Customs, the guy in NC took the key designs from it to build his. Might get more done in a day or two again. Leach |

I bought a mini crusher, it needs a torque motor or another gear unit. It is fast. I am going to do a scale model build of something. How did you mount the Nylint tires?

TBItoy, preciate the heads up on the speed of it. I might try my hand at rewinding the motor and if that doesnt work I might just set it aside for awhile while I build a bigger scale rig off the diablo chassis by Shaffer's offroad using TLT parts I already have so that will be alot nicer/more capable. To mount the tires I just took the wheels and cut out around them into a hex shape where it fit into the wheel area. Actually cut the middle out of the stock wheels, they didnt come out perfect but once filled with epoxy they will be fine. Goodluck on your build. Wrecker and everyone else, thanks for the comments. Well I have been really busy with school and working for myself and doing stuff around the house, so I figured a couple of my slow progress shots will help start a fire under my *** so I can finish this thing. Wheelbase in pics is close to what I am going to run ~10.5". I havent added many tubes, but hopefully will have most of them done and can start on the suspension to get a roller, then figure out the electronics/d-shafts/etc. Lemme know what ya think, drink for size comparison. Rear is also higher than will be set up once I make the rear shock mounts. Leach |
