Thats when the teflon tape idea shot to his head. He used it to take up the looseness caused by poor machining on his custom bearing supported linkage post.

He slid the slop free post back into place

He inspected the worn Tierod he removed yesterday.

He found that the stock end was rubbing away on the skid plate.

He found the little Traxxas ends left over from my Clod build up.

New vs. Old

He reassembled the tierod ends and drag link and put them back into place.

I helped him button up the rest of the truck so he could start adapting the wheels.

Jim dropped the wheel hex into position after centering it with a stub axle and placing a drop of ca.

He then started mixing up some JB Weld.

He welded the wheel hub in place.

He was exhausted after all this work so he got tired and went to the Bruiser.

look in the back the truck is not jack up!!!

Well Jim caught this idea today while looking at the servos. Why not put them both in front? It would help the winch out by not having to drag the cable through the brass tube that it has currently.

Jim went to the fridge and grabbed a Pepsi box chunk for mockup.

After a while he cut it down to size.

A short while after that he ended up with this.

He traced it to a sheet of 1/8 alum. With some design changes for strength.

After a rough cut we had the basic shape.

After drilling a few holes Jim played connect the dots with a hand powered saw.

After grinding the excess away the part was finished.

Jim bolted it up.

However, after we bolted the winch and servo in we found that the hood didn't allow enough room to fit the winch. The winch spool had to be at the fairlead not under it. So we scrapped the whole idea altogether.

If it works why mess with it.

So after that mess Jim went on to work on the power steering.

Jim pulled the wheel apart to insure that it could be used for this conversion. The wheel spun freely which is good.

He then Ca'd the steering column to the dash so that it wouldn't spin with the wheel.

He found the power steering ram (servo) then went to work outfitting it with a screw.

He chopped the head off the screw.

Done

He fitted it to the dash and made sure he had enough foot room.

After connecting a Y harness he was good for a test or trail run of the steering. (Click the pic its a video)

Just make sure you don't overload your BEC... Those little servo's use a lot of power. I had 4 of the HS-50's and a gyro on my microheli and I had to run a seperate BEC...

Moab is just around the corner so Jim figured he better get to work.

Winch wiring

Jim wanted a full 7.2 volts going to the winch servo for more torque. So he started with separating the wires.

He then used my razor knife to strip the wire.

Tinned the wires

uh, Jim what are you doing?

Connecting connectors.

New nationals radio gear.

Lots going on.

Quick test.

Jim grabbed a ballon and when to work testing it for air leaks.

It's good

Sealed up the RX.

Bulb grease helped with the ends.

Sealed

Jim insalled a new winch cable.

We went for a quick test we found that the truck could now dead lift a 5 pound truck!

When we came back to the shop we found that Jim's new 35's have been delivered. Super super slicky moab rock rubber.

Installing

Wow

Rubs a little.

Looks good.

More later...
