Jim disovered a little clicking today in the rear diff. This rig is too cool. Jim has his hand rigged up to move as the wheels swing left to right. Wow, This thread is hilarious. Very good work. Ryan |

Spektrum Receiver, Cheap 37 dollar brushless Korean ESC,and I think a Tower MG995 for a winch.

Thanks guys I really do appreciate the comments. Electronic Specs Steering: mg 945 Winch: mg 945 ESC: Car Fly 30a Motor: Bm16 Power steering: Mini blue tower pro servo Radio: Spektrum DX-3 Currently runs great. Only problem is the gearing is definitly not for crawling. As Big baller said the truck is still having transfer case gear issues. Under a heavy load the gears in the gear box pop. The new taller tires have made the gearing even more noticable. The ESC has no drag brake and since the motor doesn't have much by way of magnet poles. The truck often rolls like it was tossed in neutral. Which is good for everywhere but rocks. So the next update will be making a homemade reduction unit and shimming the gears tighter in the transfer case. I need to get started on making a video here soon, Jim's going to moab trip. |

Interested in seeing how you shim things. I am in the process of putting together a CC01 and I am putting together a list of all the worthwhile mods.

Lots of gear case shaving to help push the gears together. To give you a idea of how bad the ratio is. I just roughly calculated it to 20:1 my other 2.2 scaler that feels spot on is at 60:1. I need to find a 2:1 or 3:1 reduction gear box that will not raise up the motor into the carpet or be to long that it jabs the battery. Since the motor is smaller then a 500 I belive it is a 400 series motor. I can use a smaller reduction unit then a gd600 to save space. I'm thinking I'll just cut a hole in the floor and drop the motor down. |

PTI has an inline planetary gear reduction (3.4:1) that might work. Call them up for availability. Here is a photo of the unit. I have one of these trucks too. It's going to be my next build project. You've inspired me. Although I'd like to find a body like the one you have. Or find a an '03 Toyota Tacoma to match my 1:1. Last edited by OGmicromonster; 08-30-2007 at 12:27 AM. |

Let me know if you can get rid of the clicking issue. I'm having problems with that when I try to outpull a friend's TLT.

I guess I'm going to make my own box with some pinions. 12 tooth vs. a 35tooth. It should net me near a 3:1 ratio. The Motor will be under Jims seat. I'm going to see if I can track down some of those pinions today. That poping is do to many things. First the output shaft is slotted so it sort of slops around in the inner bearing. The gears are so wide, I can't possibly see why they don't work. All that I can assume is that tamiya designed the mesh wrong from the factory. |

BTW, a GD600 and a 500 sized motor don't fit in an XC, you'd need a small outruner. awesome build though!

Made the reduction unit last night out of scrap jim and I had around the shop. It's made for 1/8 alum sheet, a old Kyosho gear, spacers from true value. 3:1 is the reduction I can tell it is going to crawl better already. The motors pinion looks worn because it is I ordered a new one but that won't be here till wednesday. Jim found the motor plate to be cracked, it's a good thing we have a spare. There it is, we'll have to give a update on how to remove the gear click. Jim and I already picked up on the source the other night we just need to fix it. |
