Tacoma Jero (Jims Rebuild)

Well after abusing this Toyota bodied Pajero for a few years. Jim bugged me and decided it was his turn to take over to rebuild the poor truck. ;-) He described to me a Scale truck buildup unlike any other, so I let him get started.

After removing the grill and windows he started on some Bondo work to the body, to remove some fender rust and repair some trail damage.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2.../IM000623a.jpg

While taking a break from sanding Jim soon realized that he needed greater head room and that the steering servo was a pain in the *** and would need to be relocated to under the hood.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000624.jpg

Jim then thought of the brilliant idea to use this race/bling style wheelchair as a racing seat. His plan is to install a nice interior and Lexan windows for more comfort.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2.../IM000621a.jpg

When I got home from work I shocked Jim with a new 34x9.50x15 TSL Bogger tire to test fit to the chassis.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000596.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000594.jpg

Jim quickly put himself to work pumping the floor jack and removing the wheel.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000612.jpg

I heard Jim exclaimed WOW! it looks mean! You must get the other 3 tires!
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000610.jpg

After reinstalling the worn BFG's I caught him testing the flex. Soon after, the hot neighborhood girl came by his garage asking what was going on. They soon got to talking and Jim convinced her to pose for him on the truck.

bigred 04-15-2006 12:23 AM

LMAO!! that's awesome. But tell Jim I think he means 35x10.5 boggers:mrgreen:

I do have a suggestion, maybe build up some flairs for it out of bondo that would look slick.

I now need to find a body like that for mine!!!.....

ColquittCustom405 04-15-2006 12:38 AM

I,I I don't know what to say. After the second picture I started to get scared  AAAnyways from the looks of it this should be a pretty damun good scale build.Throw some sliders on the side and do a straight axle conversion on the front, and call it a day!

TeeLTee 04-15-2006 02:47 AM

LMAO:lol:...Jim does some great work!! looking forward to seeing this build up!

Fozzy Down Under 04-15-2006 02:50 AM

Possibly the funniest build thread I have seen since the lego men drift cars.

4XADICT 04-15-2006 03:23 AM

If the creativity thats in the presentation goes into the build as well, this will be a good one. Thanks for a good laugh, nice work.

jwrape 04-15-2006 04:26 AM

That was extremely creative and funny to watch. Jim seems like a cool guy although he seems a little stiff at times. LOL!

Where did you find those wheels? The white wagon wheels that Jim was test fitting before the chick came along and distracted him?

chaotic_life 04-15-2006 07:25 AM

Thanks, I got the Bogger tire at Target in the Toy aisle. They are Licensed TSL Boggers I nearly passed out when I saw them there. They are called, Fly Wheels. They are $4.99 each with the little pull spinner thing. So $20 for a set of Boggers. They had truly awesome scaled down MT/R tires to but I didn't feel like spending $10 for one tire out of the 4 pack of ricer tires. The carcass is thick, the rubber compound is not much worse then stock, maybe softer. They should fit touring car rims with no problems. I'm going to work on making the Cragers fit through

That's funny as hell.

This morning I found Jim asleep in my Bruiser.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000631.jpg

The flash of the camera woke Jim up and he was ready to go.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000639.jpg

Jim started disassembling the wheel chair.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2.../IM000649a.jpg

He then removed the steering servo and radio box.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000646.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000648.jpg

After clearing the way he hoisted the seat into position.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000664.jpg

During his lunch break he realized that the seat was not mounted low enough to keep he head out of the sun roof.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000660.jpg

So after removing the seat, he got the safety glasses and Dremel tool out. He then went to work cutting the servo mounts from the frame.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000669.jpg

He then tested the fitment. I helped him lower the body to the frame. Perfect!
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000674.jpg

He reclined the seat back and dreamed of himself pimping the truck around town.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000675.jpg

After such a successful day in the shop he celebrated with a few dark beers.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000659.jpg

He then was so smashed he could hardly stand up.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000656.jpg

I guess he needs to sober up.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r/IM000642.jpg

More later...

FFRCJosh 04-15-2006 12:17 PM

He looks like he's pissed you woke him up...

Creative start to what should be a good build. Care to share any big plans or is Jim still not sure what he wants to do?

I'll have to stop by Target and look for some of those tires for sure...
