Another scale 4runner
 

While waiting for my cann-bak to get done for my other Toyota trail rig, I decided to get a start on my 4runner.

I decided not to mod my stock chassis since it is the nitro version so I am building a ladder style chassis for it. The one problem I have with this body is the missing rear bumper. I looked at the steel bumper on my other rig and decided that this one needs some armor plating. The rear bumper has a total of 13 pieces and looks fairly decent. I will cut the plastic front bumper from the grill and make a bumper to match the rear.

This rig will also have a full removable exo to shield it on the rocks. Let me know what you think so far!

Man there are starting to be a lot of 4Runners. I have one as well that I'm about to start building. Great job so far!

Is the sheetmetal soldered or brazed?

Welded! It's 22g steel. I just use several tack welds to prevent warpage. Then grind the excess down.

what are you using to grind? it looks like flap wheel work... looks good, i hadnt thought about sheet metal bumpers on a scaler

I just use the grinding stone on my dremel to knock down most of the welds and finish it off with a hand file.

hrm have you ever tried a flap disk ? it would do that finish in about 5 seconds...

Nah, I don't have one. It doesn't take very long doing it this way, and it's one less thing to buy.

where do you get these 4runner bodys at

Many have to go back in time. It's vintage Kyosho goods, cira 1989-1992'ish. I'm still searching for either a 4Runner or Pathfinder body...wihtout having to pay more than $50.

You did a great job on the rear bumper :mrgreen: I cant wait to see more progress

Thanks! Got a bit of work done on the frame last night, still waiting for my TLT kit to get here from Ultimate. Once that is here I can get everything situated and get the body mounted.

very cool I have a full size 4-runner with an exo and would love to build a scaler as well using a stick chassis and exo where can I find a first generation (1985-1989) body?

To my knowledge, there hasn't been one made in a usable scale.

Looks awesome, where do you guys get all these yota bodys? I cant find any, not that I look too hard since their rareness cost to much!

WOW, this is going to be a great rig, this guy is unstoppable on builds. I will be watching this one for sure. ;-)
