| MONGO - built specifically to steal exotic cars off a speeding train
A collaborator and I have been brainstorming this build for over a month now. Many ideas were thrown around like a true hydraulic steering system and custom axles. In the interest of motivating myself to get this build going I decided to just start this thread and start bending some tubes - focusing on the chassis first. Eventually a 2nd chassis will be built for rock racing but the first one will be strictly for slow crawling. The inspiration is the Mongo from the movie Fast Five Thanks JS412 for working out the CAD for the cab Body paneling is pretty sparse but every attempt will be made to conceal all RC objects ie. servo, tranny, battery etc. Tube material will be 3/16 OD x .0375 wall chromoly for the mains and 3/16 OD x .020 wall stainless steel for support. Tube bender here i come...... Last edited by prifral; 08-22-2011 at 10:01 PM. |

That thing looks pretty massive, I can't imagine it'll be too hard to hide stuff. You going to include a fake front diff cover too? |

here is a little tease for the initial CAD mock up. This one was tossed around for the rock racer. And yes you can fit a 1/10 exotic car on the bed. L: ~27" W: ~12" H: ~12" |

SS on the left 4130 on the right. at 4 inches the SS is .2oz while the 4130 comes in at .4oz. Vital info for keeping things as light as possible. Some test bends while I calibrate my bender. Though requiring alot more force to bend, the 4130 actually bends tighter than the SS. This is the first test run of one of the most complex bends on the rig - the side hoop of the cab. This was done out of the 4130. Spent a lot of time measuring lengths/angles/radius because detailed notes now will allow this component to be duplicated faster/easier later on. |
