The rust bucket Here is something I have built & rebuilt & rebuilt, I think i'm finally gonna be happy with it. Still gotta few things to finish. Here is the thread for the body, I painted this thing years ago and have barely used it...... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...he+rust+bucket Started with a diaz proto chassis R2D tranny for 2 or 4wd HH 35t tourqemaster (old school) Axial Axles Home-made rear truss JR 8711 servo traxxas links Well onto the pics http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914135.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914153.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914183.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914207.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914234.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914314.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914382.jpg Wheels are only on for mock up. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314914432.jpg Still need to finish: Shocks & Shock hoops Wheels & tires Bumpers and electronics Not really planning an interior just yet, think its gonna be my trail beater. Any input will always be appreciated |
Digging the weathered 3-trucks-into-one body. It would look right at home here in rust belt central Vermont. Looking forward to more pics of the chassis coming together. |
I like your 4link/truss, nice and simple. I think I'll try to make a set like that |
This is gonna be cool.. I like that body. |
Thanx for the kind words. It went to the tire shop & got some boggers put on it. I just slapped the electronics in it & threw the body on it to take it for a test drive. Here is a couple pics. Nothin like a quick trail run at 1am. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314933836.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314939107.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1314939126.jpg I'm not too happy with the full droop set up. Gotta order some scale shocks for it. The slingers actually did pretty well, but still need better wheels & tires. |
I made some progress today, Got the front shock mounts made & mounted up. I used a thin 22ga piece of metal from lowes & cut em out with my grinder. They also line up almost dead balls perfect for the body mounts too."thumbsup" http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109660.jpg Here it is after the rears were made & mounted up. The rears were similar to the front but not close enough for me to cut all 4 at once. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109681.jpg Nothin says redneck like a home brewed 4" pipe bumper....(3/8" brake-line)... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109713.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109741.jpg Got a front bumber mounted up, used an old aluminum t-maxx bumper. I still need to bust out the grinder & take the ridges & lettering off of it & paint it. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109766.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109804.jpg Got the bumper mounted up & realized that the front end was missing somethin. So I put headlight stickers on it for now (working lights are in the future) & also added a redneck home brew brush gaurd. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315118843.jpg The body post are gonna get trimmed down as soon as my shocks show up from RPP. Also I need to get my hands on a set of steelies & some rubbers somewhere in the 4.25" range. The slingers are just a tad too small. Mandatory poser shot....... (i'm sure it'll flex better with the new shocks) http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315109976.jpg I decided I would finally try my hand at a lil styrene work. Made a box to hold the electronics. Unfortunately it is all mounted on the rear for now. Working with styrene is actually not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Now I'm seriously debating on building an interior for this thing. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315116522.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315118899.jpg Stuck the sidewinder & rx with a lil velcro and plastered a strip to the bottom of the tray to hold it all in place. Still got alot to do...... |
thats a cool looking yote |

Some goodies showed up in the mail the other day from RPP "thumbsup" http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315361419.jpg Got em all mounted up with some 35wt oil, these things are the $hit. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315361328.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315360054.jpg Got plenty of flex to em. I haven't had a chance to take em for a test drive yet due to the rain & flooding around here lately. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1315361148.jpg Hopefully I can get it semi-waterproofed up & take it mud boggin & see how many times I can get it stuck. |
awesome. i see it and think back yard mud bogger. love it. the boggers like sweet cut like you did. |
Few updates Well I decided to scrap the r2d tranny, swapped it out for a r2. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316052095.jpg Also made another truss for the front axle. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316063765.jpg Chassis mounted steering http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316063665.jpg Still gotta make the steering links & get a new servo horn. Any suggestions on the steering ? |
Well, I was on my way out the door for work when I was greeted by the postman with a package...... So needless to say, I didn't go to work today...... Good thing I make my own schedule. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316123093.jpg Some rc4wd oem steelie's & pit bulls from RPP.... A lil pvc & lots of thread-locker....... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316130901.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316131272.jpg Now with the new rims & rubbers, I gotta re-work the bumpers & body mounts for tire clearance. The body moved up a lil will gimme room for a more detailed interior. I need some help with the steering set-up on this thing. Any time I have tried chassis mounted steering it has turned into an epic failure. |
way cool courier!!!"thumbsup" |

Well after the new rims & rubbers were on it, I needed to figure out a different way to mount the body & hide some of the chassis & tranny. So i decided to make some boatsides/sliders for it. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386352.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386326.jpg Also got some styrene work done & electronic's mounted up. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386268.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386297.jpg Took her fer a test drive in the yard. Here is a couple action shots. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386411.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386510.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386535.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386486.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1316386453.jpg Now I gotta start on an interior. The electronic's are far enough back that all of it should be hidden under the seat. Lookin at the floorboard, I think I'm probably gonna have a driver with no legs, but that's fine with me (i'll just make a handicapped mirror hanger to match mine). Lemme know what ya think of the boatsides/sliders. I'm thinkin of cuttin a small line out of them to match the body lines for the doors & bed. That way it'll look ghetto fabulous like chrome stick on trim on the bottom of the body. I gotta trim the fenders a bit for tire clearence but I'm hesitant to cut on the body too much. |
I went to the local state park today to play & get a few action shots. It started rainin about 15 minutes into playin. Have ya ever seen a fat guy runnin through a rocky creek bed? Needless to say with the lovely weather I decided to go home and work on some of the details needed to finish this thing. Here is a couple action shots from today. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179669.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179726.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179764.jpg Here is some pics of the headlights and grill I made today. I picked up a couple cheap a$$ flashlights from Harbor Freight ($1.99 ea) today that worked perfect. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179786.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179814.jpg A perfect fit.......... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179838.jpg A lil bit of styrene & a new grill is made..... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179864.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179900.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317179985.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317180025.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317180048.jpg I chopped the grill outta the body....... I was a lil hesitant to cut up the body, but I said fork it & busted out the scissors....... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317180079.jpg And after the new grill is installed........ http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8...1317180230.jpg Lemme know whatcha think. I still gotta work up a new front & rear bumper & finish the interior. Thanks fer lookin. |
I think you need to bring that thing to Tennessee on Nov. 13th . Oh yes I'm talking about a big run @ The farm . "thumbsup" |
