Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

Well I've been talkin about building one of these forever and now it is a reality. As most of you know I sold the Bad Boy Sammi and took the money to buy all the parts for this build. As a kicker to all the vendors that helped out at the 3rd Annual Food Drive, 95% of all the parts I purchased were from Vendors who gave to our raffle that helped all those families. So as a big thanks to all of those vendors, and giving to raffles DOES promote future sales "thumbsup"

I got the Donor rig from a buddy who dont EVER crawl so I traded some old Baby furniture that I WON'T ever use again. It's a pretty good deal for him cuz part of the deal was that if he gets to go crawlin, I have to provide him a rig :) It's basically a stock honcho but it had a Holmes Hobbies BRXL non- waterproof and my favorite Cobalt 27T motor thats a great little set up right there and it came with some lights too so I will transfer all of that.

Now onto the goodies

Donor Rig stock Honcho
Motor Cobalt 27 Turn
ESC Holmes Hobbies BRXL
Servo Hitech 7954
Tires 1.9 proline super swampers from CKRC
Rims 1.9 Mayhem slamerz from Mayhem of course!
Body Tamiya FJ-40 Landcruiser from CKRC
foams 1.9 crawler inovations dual stage

Misc items

Robinson Racing gears for the tranny from CKRC
Venom knuckles and C's
Castle creations BEC
Venom drive shaft rings
misc stickers from Bowtie

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

Well after the holidayz I finally got some time to work on this rig. I've got the chassis redrilled to put the skid as close to the center of the chassis as possible so the links front and rear will be close to the same length. Basically I'm useing all of Sprint's R&D to set up this chassis because....well....that bronco is BAD AZZ! anyway. All the links were made out of 1/8th threaded rod with traxxas rod ends. I have some break line to cover them but that will be after all the mock up is done. I'm running the front 3 link with the rear 4 linked. Still a long ways to go but I'm getting there.

This is the direction I'm going with this build. It's a friend of mines truck which I got to wheel in on several occassions. This build will bring back alot of my 1:1 days. It will not be exact and I'm going to make some minor changes. I'm going to build the Mr. Ed version of this truck "thumbsup"

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

Well finally figured out how to mount the body. Took some all-thread 4-40 and welded it to the back of the frame and used some of those body pin holders and job done...Now that I got the body mounted I can get some more stuff done quicker.

http://i542.photobucket.com/albums/g...IMAG0142-1.jpg

And I'm looking at about 2.5 to 2.75 inches of wheel travel with Minimal tire rub

Thanks, This one is giving me fits because I really dont want to chop any fenders and keep it sorta realistic. the flex is short but so is the wheel base it will be interesting to see how this does on the rocks.

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

Well Hammered out alot of the busy work tonight. Got the Robinson Racing gears installed. Mirrored the transmission while I was at it. Stripped the green off the Venom drive shaft rings and installed them. I used yellow can easy-off oven cleaner and let them soak about 10 minutes the wiped them clean with a rag. The set screws on these rings are very cheap, probally wont buy another set of the venom but the deal was good so I had too. Got the drive shafts built and the motor installed. Busy night but gonna call it.

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

Well I guess i stared at it too long and started hacking on it. But yes it will be a FJ-45 ish...Not going to change the WB. I've never hacked and repaired lexan before so this should be a learning curve for me. Plus I can always just buy another 40 body and run it on the same chassis:ror:

Thanks for all the compliments:)

Well here's what I had in mind. I have ALOT of touch up work to do but the lines are matching up quite well. My plan is to install the honcho tire carrier in the back...no cage. "thumbsup"

So, does that make it an FJ 42.5?

Sick build, keep it up.

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

So I'm starting to regret my hack body mod on the lexan. On my 3rd sand and primer on the roof and it's still visible. Gonna give it a few more shots but I may end up haveing to start over and not cut up the body. I will finish this project but it may turn into a live and learn body mod :(

Nice looking build Ed...
Maybe I can help in order to get rid of that body line take your dremel cut off wheel and cut 1/16 gap right on the seam across the roof then glue some styrene on the bottom side of it after that fill in your gap with icing, bondo, or green stuff whatever you're using after that you'll be able to sand the seam flush and it'll be smooth and look completely factory.. I hope this helps ive done it myself and if done right it'll work :)

Re: Mr. Ed's FJ-40 Landcruiser

well I hit a major bump in the road last night which will make it VERY hard to finish this by the Alabama run. While waiting on paint to dry I was useing metal shears to cut down the dummy screws for my MT Head beadlock rings........

http://i542.photobucket.com/albums/g...magejpeg_2.jpg

So lets do the Math...

Proline rims 3 free in trade
proline rims 2 new $17.00
MT Head beadlock rings $14.00
Screws $35.00

Trip to ER $200.00

so thats $266.00 for the rims on this truck
