Default Was Szczerba's Defender 90 Build. On to the Next.

Yep, another D90.

Got this from truckerbuddy2 and I immediately tore it down and rebuilt it just to see what it was about.
Then the little hamster in my head started running on the wheel.

Couple notes.
Stock steering geometry needed some work.
Suspension and links needed some work.
Driveline angles needed some work.
Caster needs to be introduced into this system.
Just about every driveline part needed shimming.

T-Rex 60 beef tubes? More on those later.

I 4-linked the rear: turned the rear 4 link bracket around, grabbed links out of the parts bin and cut down the rear drive shaft a bit. Pinion angle much better.
I also added supports to where the lower links mount the chassis. Long spacers and single shear don't mix wheel.

3-linked the front with panhard bar. Cut down some key stock and drilled/tapped it for panhard bar

hacked on the bumper mount and rotated the servo 90 degrees.

Laid down primer and main coat of "pebble" color
Body is ridin' high right now.

Up next, make integrated panhard bar bracket mount/servo mount.

1.9 trailbusters, 1.9 mud pluggers and 1.55 mud hogs

Ha! Thanks. I can't keep still. Always working on something. And this chassis setup needs a lot of work. I like my scale setups to perform too.

Awesome build pics. I love seeing the in depth photos of suspension/chassis setups. Very clean work as always!

Thanks guys. Going to start on the servo/panhard mount soon. Front end flexes real nice and zero bump steer.

Got in the XVD's, roof rack, sliders and firmer springs.

Not sure if I'll keep all the roof rack. Might chop some of it off.

Couple quick mock up pictures.

Looks good so far Finally someone trying to make the Gelande chassis work right lol I'm still getting a lot of bump steer with the 4-link up front, so I may borrow some of your ideas to help it out. Can't wait to see what other improvements you come up with!

zero bump steer with this setup. The axle does ever so slightly flex in an arc. But it will not be noticable.
The beef tubes failed with what I had in mind. Didn't work. I'll have to rework them sometime.

Seen that setup and didn't really dig it too much. I have made panels to cover up the big side windows.

Nope, I did get in a HiTec 7954 servo in. Just need to make the inner fenders, electonics mounts/boxes.
I've been working in Texas everyday the last 5 days. No weekend break either.

RC4WD ones that come with the truck. I did get the heavy duty springs since the truck has some weight to it.

Got in a HiTec 7954SH and yellow top oven cleaned the chrome off the accessory pieces.
Panelled up the side windows and blacked out the other windows. The small upper back cab "roof" windows will be addressed later. I'll have to make them from scratch. One was missing from the guy I bought this roller off of. They are curved so it might take a bit of time to make 'em.

Robbed the kitchen tupperware drawer and made up some rear wheel wells.
The front wheel wells are from a plastic fruit plate. The wheel wells have a vertical face on the back. Worked out good with the interior and my base interior plate.

The two servo boxes will get "cut and shut" to hold a 3S lipo and all the electronics. I did this on my 6x6 build before. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...ml#post2962658
Hacked on the interior to make it work.

Got the floor, fenders and electronics box all done.
Need to mount and paint the electronic box on the back. I'll probably have to raise it up 1/2" to clear the lid of the shock towers. I don't want to cut too many holes in the electronic boxes, so I'll just raise it up a bit.

My garage isn't heated so painting in the cold doesn't yield the best results. Most of this will be hidden though.

Ordered up some Axial fender flares too.

I flipped the servo around the the drag link is tucked in real good now.

Sorry for the blurry pictures. Too lazy to re-take them.
