UniMog Scaler So I picked up a UniMog roller chassis. I'm going to make some changes and finish the build. Should be fun. I don't know why but I love the Unimog design - kind of like owning a bulldog and thinking they are beautiful I guess. Any suggestions from you guys for scaling points for items that I can add along the way will be helpful. What I do know that I will be adding is a winch on the elevated portion of the rear flatbed. That way I can run it any direction. Some D rings on front and back as well. Not to mention I'll go with all sorts of goodies strapped onto the flatbed... maybe in large basket type of holder like you normally see on top of a roof of a crawler. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps2cb826ff.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...psb8589527.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps07fcc29b.jpg |
Re: UniMog Scaler So I started with some diamond plate for the flatbed. Love this stuff - easy to work with and looks sharp! then made the rear fenders. Gotta make the insides for the fenders still. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps8a4d1870.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps3ea1154c.jpg |

Re: UniMog Scaler I love mogs! Who did the tube work ? X2 on the diamond plate ? |
Re: UniMog Scaler yea that plate is something I am wanting as well, it has a aluminum look to it. |
Re: UniMog Scaler One of these days I am going to build a mog. Good looking rig nice work on the bed. |

I mock up each piece with thick construction paper then when it's perfect I'll trace it onto the diamond plate. The diamond plate has plastic on each side of it so that you can draw on it but peel off the plastic so you leave no marks behind. Quote:

Re: UniMog Scaler So I got the side of the wheel wells finished and pretty much most of the bed done. Then I got to work on the front inner fenders & wells. Gotta build a waterproof box to stuff all of the electronics into as well. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps45e05bb8.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps9d2cc9b1.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps593efdf8.jpg |
Re: UniMog Scaler Would you mind getting more pics of the axles ? Digging how the steering and suspension is setup. |
Re: UniMog Scaler Quote:
me too. Im seeing some very cool suspension work up front there. lets see that from the underside."thumbsup".. looks like just basically a BTA steering and 3 link and coils and shoks.. I like how you mounted the absorbers. still cant tell if its 3 link panhard or just a 4 link tho....... what knuckles did you use? this is one nice rig oh and I always used the HotRacing diamond plate, its super thin. do you know what this stuff is like in comparison to the HR stuff? been looking at the RC3WD wanting to try it.. thanks |
Re: UniMog Scaler That diamond plate really makes the flatbed, good choice. Agreed, interesting front axle setup. |
Re: UniMog Scaler 3 front end pics. The top of the front springs came out of their holders but will be anchored in later. 2 rear end pics as well. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps769a8ae7.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps5db16963.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps985e6952.jpg Rear end: http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...psb54f7a44.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps54154bcf.jpg |

Re: UniMog Scaler So I was making skid plates for the sides and was using heavy duty plastic but the whole time I was thinking "Meh..." so I got to thinking and went searching in the garage and found some 26 gauge steel and voila ! A little hammerin' and drillin' and I like it A LOT more. Gotta finish the other side tomorrow... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...psa4b34e07.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps231dcb45.jpg |
Re: UniMog Scaler Finished both side skid plates in metal. I like it so much better! http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8813.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8814.jpg |
Re: UniMog Scaler So I finally got some time to work on the Mog. Finished the front inner wheel wells & made a plate from metal to go at the front of the bed / back of the cab. Now I'm working on stick building a water proof box for all of the electronics. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8825.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8826.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8828.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG8829.jpg |
