Mattzilla's Tundra Truggy for Bulldog

I forgot to post up these pictures. Before I have Lue finish the tubework, I wanted get the body work done so we can get the cage really sharp to the body. Here's where it is now.

First, the cab back.

Then getting it all notched around the links.

Then I added some detail to the back. It's actually reversed from a typical cab, but works for me. Cheap and sleazy.

Here is the first coat of paint. Despite all my prep, I have a little orange peal I want to sand out.

I'm going to need to come up with a grill idea for the front, because the steering servo will be in the way. I wanted to do something different anyway. Paper for mockup.


The rear will also get some more goodies, a couple extra tubes, a floor, winch mount and a tail light/fairlead plate. Oh, and lots of bits and bobs for scale stuff.

And a Flex shot. Gotta have that!

As soon as I get it back to Lue he can finish it up and get it back to me. I forgot to mention...the light bar...A maddog 4"....will just fit and mount to the roll cage. If you do the same thing, you might want to go with the 3 inch to make things easier on yourself! Thanks for looking.

What axle trusses are those? They look beefy.

The trusses are DMG axle trusses. He has a bunch of different versions available with and without panhard bars. I think they have them at rpp. Google dmg and see what you see. I'll try to get a body off shot too for you. I forgot to post the body mounting method pic as well.

So far so good bulldog. I had the same problem with my servo being in the way too, I wasn't expecting that when I got it back from MG...but I was able to shave some off of the tundra grill, since that was the grill I was set on using.

Here you go Todd, Keep in mind the chassis still needs a lot of work. Lue sent this back to me so I could get the body mounted. His system uses these brackets that mount directly to the body holes. I don't like screws in the body, so I filled them.
Here's the chassis without the body.


With the body propped up, I layered some styrene to wrap around the body mounts. It holds pretty solid against the rear cage. Then I'll mount some small magnets to the plastic to hold it down pretty well. In the case of a rollover, I like for the body to pop off instead of crack.

You can see the little magnets I use in the previous pictures.

Here's the front steering setup and the panhard. Notice for a correct panhard, you have to have the links at the exact same length and at the exacts same angle. Even though the one link is bent, the endpoint to endpoint is still the same.

Here's a shot of the front and that killer powerplant! Like I mentioned, cheap and sleezy! Hope that works.

I got some time to mock up the front end for Lue. I wanted something different and didn't want to use the stock plastic pieces. I'll be building a styrene radiator to cover the servo and the fenders will get some treatments as well. Here goes...

I started the day by fine tuning my driver. He's almost finished!



I worked out the rear plate with light buckets and a fairlead.

Someone asked me how I was going to mount the light bar. Well, the tolerances are really close, so I fabbed up some new mounts that Lue's going to tack to the inner roll cage.

Just a few more tubes and I'll send it back to Lue to Tig it all into perfection. He has a really sharp eye for angles and squareness. Thanks for looking.

Looking great there! I see it takes more than just lil round magnets to mock up the tubes there. I'm getting motivated to build a tundra someday:thumbup:
