Snowman's 1.9 Project "OTTER"

Here's the start of my new project "OTTER". I've got my work cut out for me with what I plan to do with it. I'm hoping it will be a more competitive truck than Black and Yellow was. But I'm still planning on detailing the crap out of this one too.http://warcrc.org/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Re: Snowman's 1.9 Project "OTTER"

Got a little work done on Otter today. I removed the coilovers and like the feel of the leafs with the oil dampening. It seems just about right. I am able to adjust the piggy backs for a softer or harder ride. I'll do that in the trial run stages later on. The last pic is of hoops I am playing around with. I haven't decided which look I like better, but am leaning towards the round vs. square.
For this being a scale build, I'd say those shocks are WAY off. My two cents. I know they're sexy, but I just don't see them on this rig. It's a shame gmade doesn't make a super scale version.

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. I am going to run it with the leafs but haven't found a true scale oil dampening shock that I like.

I ordered a bunch of RC4WD goodies today. One of which are the ultimate scale shocks. I know they dont use oil, but they look awesome and should foot the bill nicely. I'll post some pictures of the other stuff once they all get here.

Got my new shocks and drive lines today. I put the rear shocks on and the d-lines. I really like the look of these shocks, but sure wish they had oil dampening. Next is to install the fronts. Need to make new hoops to accommodate two per side.

Looking good man! How do you like that transfer case? Also, how do you like the double shock set up?

This is the first Hammer I have owned and haven't run it or the shocks set up yet. This is a new build, so I will post up how things work out when I test the truck out.

It took me six hours, but I got the hoops done today. Phew, that was a pain in the ass!

The trany is in it new home. I had to modify a new JunFac drive line to couple the trany and t-case. Worked out beautifully. Next is the steering servo.

Cool build, how did you like those piggy back shocks? Did they hold weight well or are they still just for crawling? I was looking at that specific line for my tow rig but didn't want to pull the trigger on the price if they weren't going to hold the trailer weight

I'd say the shocks are still for crawling. I removed the springs and really liked the oil dampening action. And you can adjust the piggy backs pressure. So yes they can hold a load, but they are pretty big and not good for the scale look. I also found that they leak oil out of the bottom o-rings. I will probably be putting them up in the classifieds as I will never use them for their intended purpose.

ooh leaking is no good, especially for a shelf queen like my rig will turn into haha.

Put some fresh paint on the grill and different tires on the rims.

Yep. The OG chassis and hard body are being used. And in no way do I plan on keeping her on the shelf. I will run her as a fully capable rig. "thumbsup" That's the other half of the fun of this addiction...

I've made a little more progress on Otter. Just trying to get thru my least favorite part of building these things...the painting. Only a little more to go and I'm done...
