KC's Newbright JK

2 years ago I began an epic journey with a lil jeep TJ. Well that rig has served its purpose did me well and is ready for retirement. Now its on to a jeep of a different kolor. Aquired a a nb JK and im going to to town. Again this will be a replica build I found and will be 85% scratch. Itll be slow but updates will come and Im excited to share this build with everyone as the last one was such a great success.

Heres the motovation

http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...n/a1c84063.jpg

Ill post more pics when I get access to a computer. Fist thing to do is protect the driver and passengers. So full protective roll cage is in order.

Heres the start.

Since its 1/8th scale ill be usinh 1/4 brake line.

re: KC's Newbright JK

Something I had already done was trim the fenders. Later on I may go full tube flat fenders but for now im gonna go with this. I measured, taped, cut, and filed it smooth. I like how it looks for now but after I sand down the body imperfections im gonna media blast the body and fill in the recesses on the fenders. Will be coated in patriot blue metallic paint. Instead of leaving the roof and removable top black ill be painting all of it to match. Fenders will remain black.

Nice coconuts! I'll be following. Nice work on the 1/4" tubing. It scales out better for the 1/8th scale body. "thumbsup"

Look at you with the flange fitting into the rear of the body!8)

Keep chuggin! Poodle likey:flipoff: For extra scale points you should braze some 1/8 rod onto the cross brace behind the seats for O sh$t handles for the rear passengers.

what did u use to cut you fenders buddy? jk is looking great, im in the process of gathers templates and idea for building a similar cage out of 1/4 solid rod, and just started tearing my body apart, havent decides how to cut it yet tho. keep up the good work!

re: KC's Newbright JK

iv read about using a 15-28 tpi scroll saw blade in an exacto knife, and thread, but the thread im not to keen of and think the scroll saw might take to much material out....

re: KC's Newbright JK

Thx poodle! Haha.. yahh been thinkin about putting T handles in the back already got the pieces cut. Just gotta braze em in.

Thzx man! I just taped the fenders the shape I wanted and made cuts with mini saw blade on my dremel. Then sanded to the line after so I would have a smooth finish. After I fill the small gaps im going to cover the fenders in real carbon fiber. Shold look sick when finished. But body work is last... going with jeep patriot blue metallic and the cage will be gunmetel. Should be a nice combo.

Id use brake line bro cause solid is gonna make that cage SUPER heavy.. this one is starting to get on the heavyside but its not to bad.

re: KC's Newbright JK

For my Jk, I used a cutoff wheel to get the rough shape and then a palm sander with 220 to sand them smooth and flat. These bodies are actually pretty easy to work with. If you're going to glue anything to them (regular styrene), I've found locktite super glue gel works well. Small amounts better than more. Nice work Trav. Can't wait to see the Chassis."thumbsup"

Cage came out sick Travis! Have you considered just adding tube to the fenders and filling the bolt gaps since you already have them cut? Killer work so far!

Thx man! As for the fenders Yes I have conidered it. And may end up going that route. Just gotta find a proportional size tube for them that doesn't look overly big. "thumbsup"
