Double Cab Brute Build

It is time for a 2nd build and what better yet to build than a AEV Double Cab Brute! I have yet to see one on the forums and I am sure it will be a very testing build due to the much longer wheel base and several other small things that will need to be tackled as this build progresses. But first let me introduce everyone to the AEV Double Cab Brute as I am sure you will all fall in love with it as I have!

This is what I plan to use for the guts:
ESC: Tekin FXR
Motor: Tekin 45T Handwound Pro
Shocks: 90mm RC4WD Shocks
Axle/Housing: Scx 10 with alum. knuckles, hubs, and lock outs
Tranny: Still up in the air, I'll take suggestions
Wheels: Axial 1.9 Beadlocks
Tires: 1.9 IROKs

The only things that will change about this build from the 1:1 is that the bumpers will be different as well as the fenders. I am just not a fan of AEV's bumpers and the stock fenders are bleh!

Stay tuned as I will start this build this weekend with the cutting of the body! "thumbsup"

Re: Double Cab Brute Build

At least it'll be a real Brute unlike everyone else who takes the NB JK body and makes a JK-8 and calls it a Brute...

Anyways, look for updates from either Burning Maverick or myself as we will be tag teaming this build as we did with Showtime.

So the first cut of many has been made!

Before:

After first cut:

Here is a pic of our guess at how long the wheel base will be. Just a guess for now as we have a lot to do before we actually measure it out to the correct length but still holy length!

Guess:

I am still amazed at how clean and small this cut turned out

Still have a couple of cuts left before the night is done but wanted to show "progress" to get subscribers b/c that is what the forum likes. :flipoff:

I am subscribing! Hope you dont mind me making a variation of this  I have a JK body sitting here waiting for surgery, and this is sparking some ideas. Awesome choice man!! I dig it. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

As far as wheelbase, I am guessing somewhere around 16"

That sounds about right for the wheelbase man, freaking long right?!
Also, definitely feel free man would be awesome to see someone else' version! "thumbsup"

Here is the last little bit of cutting that we did tonight:

Also, we felt like doing a little mocking up just for kicks:

More to come tomorrow: hoping to get the back of the top cut and put on to see about how much I'll have to come down to meet the pinch seam.

Re: Double Cab Brute Build

So with this update you can start to see the build come together, we are almost done with all the cutting, although there is good bit of body work to be done to make sure everything looks seamless!

I just ordered glue and styrene so that I can start all the scratch build portions. All of that will be here Monday so I will be working on the roof and back window and the seams all weekend to make them perfect.

We just used some nylon thread. Take a length of it, double it over on itself, tie a knot in it, and then twist it till it is twisted down the entire length. Then wrap it around your fingers and move it back and forth like a saw "thumbsup"

Re: Double Cab Brute Build

Already ran into one of those problems that I was foreseeing.... I will have to load up a picture of it but I'll try my best to explain it: So where I cut the back window out to try and just cut a section out and glue it back together, well that isn't going to work due to the top corners of the back section. They curve down and in :[ So I am going to look at two options for this problem. One being that I just cut the corners out and make new ones out of styrene and other option being to cut the corners out and use them and make the rest of the back section out of styrene....I am not sure which will be easier or better yet...Might do both and see which one turns out better....

Thoughts?

Oct 22nd: So I figured out what I needed to do about the rear portion of the cab. I also jsut recieved the glue and systrene! Update/progress will commence tonight!

What part of Alaska are you moving to? I'm in Wasilla. Here's a picture of my 1.1 brute. Have already got on the list with aev for a double cab kit. Sounds like I might be waiting awhile. So I might as well build a small one to satisfy my desire. Look forward to seeing your progress.
