| R|M|D's Yota Build (Pic Heavy) Hey guys...this is my first official build in the world of RC Scalers so I figured I would make a thread and do it right! This project is a 100% piece together....no starter kits, no tear down from another project, just piece by piece. This truck here is going to be my base inspiration for look, with several things changed and added. I started out with getting a set of AX10 axles and a pair of frame rails off a trade. Next thing you know I am starting to acquire bits and pieces off of my various club members of KCRC, man these guys are awesome! I did some photography trade out with a friend and fellow club member to get myself a Hilux body with ALL the goodies along with a Dinky RC Dinky Divorce kit and a Dinky interior and camper shell. Then I had to order in some frame braces and shock hoops. Next I got some wheels from another club member, and with the help of winning one of the giveaways the great guys at Locked Up RC put on I got some Tires, foams, and scale hubs! Then I added the RCbros Leaf Spring kit to really get down to the scale business. It really sits it right where I wanted it! So for the first major mod I decided to go ahead and bob the bed for some better approach angles. The taped section will be my base area to remove Last edited by R|M|D Photography; 12-02-2012 at 12:39 PM. |

Keep going! Great photography mister. Leafs should always be under these bodies.

| Re: R|M|D's Yota Build (Pic Heavy) So I took the bed out to the shop and rigged myself up a clamp to attack it to the guide on the band saw ensuring a straight line...this is something I was told is the most crucial thing for doing a bob and getting it to turn out. A Couple of cuts later and I have a sectioned bed with nice straight lines! So....with the help of a little rusting solution from Sophisticated Finishes, I added a heavy layer of rust onto my base pimer. This way it will give some texture and when the pain gets scratched on the trail it will be rusted underneath. (will add some more after painted as well) And here it is after the rust has formed..... Next step.....Paint and weathering! |

Looking great, when my new Yota bed comes in, I'm sending it to you! I'm going to be concentrating my my TF2 Yota build over the winter, it'll be cool to have another leafed rig to crawl with. |

Looking very nice. Keep the rust off the fender flares, they're plastic!

| Re: R|M|D's Yota Build (Pic Heavy) Well.....got the painting and weathering mostly done and threw it on the chassis for some mock up pics. So far I really like it. Still a little more weathering to do to "Oxidize" the paint. Anyways...on to the pics! I left a bead of the rust down the line where I bobbed the bed, like it was bad job in real life and the weld line is showing rust.(something I have seen a few times around here) |

I'll be hitting you up for that bed cutting soon! Funny thing is I painted the cab on my Yota a Smurfy blue too and I'm running the same tires/wheels. But my wheels are black w/ a set of MTHead rings. |

Looks great, but I think a drop bed is a must. You make nice junk. |
