Imthatguy's New Rig Jerp

I've been thinking this through for some time. My old SCX10 has seen a couple bodies over it's life cycle, and even a few leaf springs. I decided I'd finally get on this build as well. It's something to do while I'm waiting for styrene glue to set. ;)

Seeing my fellow builders building various awesome Jerps made me get on it while they're still cool.

Started by stripping my chassis, and re-linking the rear.

http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/6679/img4346q.jpg

And then I put the body on.

http://imageshack.us/a/img855/1888/img4288oa.jpg

DONE!

Actually, there's still a few steps to do. I'm keeping the 4 door wheelbase, but will be altering the body slightly to give it a little originality.

First of all, the axles that were on there fell off. I'm not sure why. I didn't know what to do, so I put what I had in the garbage and went to the parts bin. Yes, my axles are very wide. Is this NASA? SHUT UP!

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/950/img4351b.jpg

Then the transmission fell off and then got put in a better place. THANKS GCM! Helps to make a lot of room for the interior and mounting the body at an appropriate height. Steering servo mounts right up and tucks everything away under the hood.

Very innovative bit of kit. And good news to all you folks making Wronchos, Wringos, whatever, using this GCM kit will save you the headache of bending up your links, or 3 linking around your driveshafts. No binding here whatsoever.

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/649/img4355ui.jpg

Here's my new RC4WD Jerp bumper. I like it a lot. It's metal and is well suited to your Jerp build. Be it JK, JKL, Cherokee, Cheromanchee, CJ, JJ, Dyn-o-mite, whatever!

http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/4563/img4356t.jpg

Here's the body roughly trimmed and sitting on the chassis. As you can see, it's my New Rig. Looks good on there. A little wheelbase adjustment up front and we're good to go on with some more cutting of the body.

Or, I could go back on my word and use a lexan body I had sitting around and keep the JK for a later build that's a little more to proper dimensions. Something to think about for sure...

For what it's worth, my vote is for the JK body. It's looking good on that chassis setup. Especially since you've bought and mounted all that driveline gear to get the interior and body to set down low. It'd be a waste to use that lexan body.

I really like what you've got so far.

Well I hope for the JK....just so that you can feed me ideas for mine"thumbsup"

I always appreciate your build and your attention to detail. Looking forward.

Thanks, I've decided to stick with the JK. For what it's worth, the Chero has the same JK interior.

Ha, cool. Glad you appreciate the build, and by all means, steal any ideas you like.

Got the front links redone and sorted. Happy with the stance.

Does she like to crawl the mall too? ;)

I did a lot of cutting to the body today. Got rid of the running boards, rear bumper, and parts of the fenders. I took the hard route and puttied all the holes on the fenders. That might have been a stupid decision. No turning back now I guess. I'll hide my poor life choices with textured paint.

I got all the electronics wired, soldered and hidden. Since I'm running 3S and an external BEC, I've got two switches. To keep it nice and clean, I ran the switches through the rear bumper support for easy access.

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4511/img4373t.jpg

The switches are simple toggle switches and are completely hidden from view, but still really easy to get to.

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/6269/img4377c.jpg

Did up a quickie radiator, modifying some n00b fenders to fit, and got some shock socks.

Well, what did I do today...

I cut up those n00b fenders to make them fit into the wheel wells of this Jeep. Hides things nicely.

http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/6482/img4385t.jpg

Then I put a strip of styrene metal plate on the bonnet. Why you would need to protect that area is beyond me. But hey, I've seen it done on real Jeeps. Oh, I know why they do that, it's so you won't scratch your hood when you inevitably roll it.

http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6646/img4386.jpg

Flex shot with the wrong wheels and tires. So comically small!

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9983/img4387kr.jpg

This is where I'm putting my battery. It plug in through the bottom.

http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/3496/img4388t.jpg

I'm planning on putting some scale junk in the trunk, so I needed to cover said battery.

http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/4562/img4389h.jpg

Here's one of two options I'm considering for final wheel choice. Would a Jerp have lockers like this?

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/8696/img4391w.jpg

Also, top tip for you wheel n00bs. If you're having a hard time squeezing two parts of a beadlock rim together, use an overlength screw to get it going, then put all your other small screws in, and take out the long one. I've been struggling with wheels for a very long time. Yes, I'm Canadian, and most people think I'm slow, eh?

Where did you get the New Rig Jeep at? My Walmart only has New Brights.

Nice looking jeep, question on the trans mount.
Why is it angled so much, it should sit level. At lease mine does."thumbsup"

Thanks! According to both the GCM website and Youtube, this is the proper mount. I'm not even sure how you could get it level to be honest. That would really screw with the driveshaft angle too. I guess you could mount it to the rear end of the shock hoop? Works great the way it is though.

Just took a look at your JK thread. Your mount is different because it's a different chassis. Cross Canyon. This is an SCX10 mount kit.

These new wheels showed up today. THANKS GCM!

I think I like this look better for the style of truck I'm going for. Bad news, the Wraith axles are so wide, and the bolts are so long, that the locking hubs don't fit. I guess I could cut them, but that sort of thing makes me nervous.

So, what say the masses, which wheels do I choose?
