So I had some time today to tinker. I decided how I wanted the electronics. Esc up front, battery up front and receiver/leds in the project box in the rear looking like a fuel cell. Also put some rare earth magnet on it which will hold the body. Hooked it all up except the leds and it wouldn't budge. Just clicking from the venom motor. Next thing I knew....smoke. great.....now to buy a motor. |

So double checked the motor. Pulled a noob mistake and the motor screws I used were too long causing the binding. Swapped them out and the motor still works great lol.

This build is going along, just doing some body work. Stuck with what color to paint it too. Red with flat black or orange with flat black. The other color will end up on my TJ build later down the road lol.

Started to paint today. Sanded it down and put a coat of white primer (accidentally got the 'fine' primer) but it sure left an interesting look. Was still able to see where the decals used to be lol. THen I wet sanded it before applying the flat black. But for some reason I got tons of air bubbles, WTF How it currently sits after sanding some of the air bubbles out. Going to wet sand it smooth and apply another coat of black before continuing. ANy tips on how to minimize those air bubbles? Did I not clean the body enough prior to putting a new coat of paint? This is the first time I've used Tamiya paint, I'm usually using Testors or Pactra. Does wind have anything to do with it? It was unusually windy today lol. My guess would be contamination under paint!

Had some time to work on it some. So far the biggest pain has been this paint issue I'm having. Note to self, dont mix paint brands. Nothing but issues for me. Now I have to sand the whole body down to start over. Anyways, boy have I got a surprise for you all. ScaleReady built me these wonderful wraith axles to scx10 (or close enough) width. The front is an off center pumpkin with pan hard or 4-link configuration. Opted for pan hard setup as 4link gave some serious bump steer. The rear is a centered wraith housing with 4 link set up. They fit beautifully! I was running 475 SLW hubs before to avoid hitting links/shocks, but with these new axles I was able to run 225s and still not make contact!!! At exactly 10" width front and rear, 12.5" wheel base now. With the shock locations I was able to make the over ride height lower too which is awesome because I dont like/want a 'jacked' up rig plus lower always crawls nicer =) On to the pics!! The angle of the pics make the axles look ridiculously wider but in reality they are roughly 1/2" wider at each end. |

Pics of it all mounted on the chassis =) Cleaned up the wiring and put wire loom on everything. Even put black heat shrink on the motor leads to eliminate any 'color' wires. Zip ties galore! The ESC and Servo go all the way to the receiver hiding in the 'fuel cell' in the back via servo extensions. Last edited by Shinjari; 03-14-2013 at 03:27 PM. |

Paint is going to be similar but hopefully a darker orange. For other people wanting to use 'Racing Orange' by testors. It comes out more like neon super bright safety cone orange. So I'm glad I have to sand it all down....sorta lol. Lot of elbow grease sanding this down. Still need to install fenders, and need to bite the bullet on some Locked Up scale hardware for the SLW hubs. Wish they came in black too. |

Like I said, the paint isnt going to stay as it needs some serious help. Well after hours of wet sanding I'm almost there lol Using 220 grit sure requires some elbow grease but dont want to ruin the body with too low grit a sand paper. Still need to finish the roof, redo some of the green body filler as the pressure from me sanding caused some separations and get more of the fine details done. |

So after driving myself crazy over paint and body work here is the progress Tamiya Grey Primer, Tamiya Orange and Tamiya Matte Black Then I got crazy with some details, did hinges, door handles, wipers, window frames. ALso the first picture is a better representation of the orange. its a dark orage which I'm super happy with. Our house just has such poor lighting to take good pictures. Also got something from Cory at TSS. These Chameleon wheels are impressive! Glad I got one of the last sets before they were gone forever. Not sure if they will make it on this rig as the VP OMF's I got really look good with it, but never hurts to have options. More pics incoming. |

So I put more of it together, Axial poison fenders fit great on the new bright body. Fitted some of the light buckets, got the hood sorta mounted, need to work on hinges and its sitting a little high at the moment because its not done . Also, some pics of the narrowed wraith axles, all mounted. Remember those VP OMF's I mentioned? See, they look good! |

Looking real good bud. Glad you sorted out those paint issues while keeping the body out from under your foot. |

| Re: NewBright JK Build GCM chassis Xr steering! Thanks! Which ones? The VP OMF's? Or the Scale SHop Chameleons? Both? Thanks, man. Some serious time went into it looking as good as it is right now. Still has some details to go but Im happy with the way its turning out Yeah I hear that! I totally wanted to step on this thing when the solvent/paint issue happened. But As I said, Im stoked that I had to redo it and it turned out way better. This color is so much like what I wanted in an orange which makes it even that much better |
