Maybe I missed it, but what are you using for shackle bushings?

I think the main reason that leafs don't hold up under severe abuse in the 1/10 world is that they have to locate and support the weight of the truck. With your setup they only support the weight while the links locate the axle, which should make them last much longer.
Thanks! The shackle bushings are actually the ball sockets from Traxxas rod ends.

I was actually thinking the same thing about the springs. I hoping they hold up for at least the season. I'll keep the thread updated as the season goes on.

Thanks!

I forgot to show this in the last post but here is the fit if the inside of the fenders with the new wheel wells.

With the bed done i made up some new panels for the rest of the body. the nice thing about the new chassis set-up with the separate bed, is that it now allows me to assemble the cab corners, back and roof as one piece before i install it. much easier than the old method where i had to glue everything together on the chassis.

then i added fitted the panels to the chassis

then threw on the spare mount and tool box.

then it was time to add the lites. to do that i simply glued the LED's to the inside of the lite bucket

And fed the wires through the access in the floor

that keeps the inside of the bed nice and clean

The last thing i wanted to address was the skid. I never put kick-ups on it and it would catch stuff all the time. to i made up some plates and tacked them in place

then TIG'd them solid.

My welds are getting better. Here is a comparison to show just how small they are

With the chassis done it was blasting then paint. I went with something different, a light gray.

next it was running gear and interior

Then it was time for paint on the body.

I wanted to try a new Rustoleum paint. it's a metallic gunmetal gray with primer in it. the paint came out nice but for those that might want to use it, The "primer" effect does not work. you need to primer the surface first. also it comes out real heavy and fast but i had no runs. Also, the finish ends up dull, even though it says glossy, so i put a clear over it.

Finally it was time to assemble it. It looks neat with the bed off

Here is a shot of the back of the cab since once the bed is on it won't be seen

Now to hook up the rear lites I used a small Losi micro connector.

And here is it minus the lite lenses

I didn't show this before but here is the profile of the leaf springs. they tuck up nicely for a smooth belly

I also added rear shackle mounts

That pretty much gets the build up to date. I ran it at a comp this past weekend and did pretty good finishing 2nd. I'll post up some comp pics later.

WOW. I just have to say im totally blow away by your fab work. Looks great! Question for you however, where do you get the .006 sheet metal from and what do you use to glue the panels together?

not sure what glue but i do believe this is the metal he uses.. its actually a tooling foil, he has videos on youtube on how he makes his panels.. definitely worth the watch of the vids..

Pure Metal Tooling Foil - BLICK art materials

know long ago that the resin molds would be much nicer, i just didn't have the money to invest in the materials.

I don't know exactly how many hours but it's probably around 80.

It looks quicker than it really was. I haven't been updating the thread the last couple weeks because of spending so much time working on the truck.

Yep that's the material. The glue i use is Shoo-goo, Goop, E6000 they are all the same flexable adhesive.

Well i got the lenses on and got some nice outdoor shots at the comp this past weekend

then the carnage began during the second course.

Then as i began the third course, the tranny went out.

After i fixed it i managed to finish the course with a bit more carnage

After the comp i did some playing around

then i took a bit of a tumble!

I easily fixed the damage and proceeded to add some more!

In all i was extremely happy with the truck. it performed better than i hoped and the damage was exactly as i expected.

I have another comp this weekend so we'll see how it does there.

Don't worry, you will. it'll be nice and strait in August though as this body will be thoroughly beat by then!

Well, last week i was playing around and added some more character to the body by getting a little friendly with a rock

then i flopped it on the passenger side

But it was quickly fixed and i was on my way

body is looking good with all the damage!!! i watched your videos on youtube of the comp and i noticed that it has quiet a bit of torque twist and that you could have made some of those sidehills, is it just because of the leaf springs??

Actually it has a lot less torque twist than before because of the leafs. the shocks are still at a pretty steep angle though so that doesn't help. it's a small price to pay as i didn't want to cut into the bed floor to move them.

I got some more pics from the comp at Rausch Creek. these were taken by a professional photographer and came out amazing!

You can see his stuff here: jkolvaphotography's Photos

On to the pics!

and some playing around shots

I think this is the only panel that you didn't smash to bits last Sunday!

Just great work man. I love the realistic damage. I'll looking to do something similar with my wraith. Use a metal type material for the panels.

A++ for realistic damage.

The C's didn't give me any more steering, the nuckles did that, but the C's gave me the ability to clock the pinion up a bit and give me some positive caster in the process. Do i like them? i do now but they took quite a bit of tweaking to get to work smoothly. i had to ream the holes out for the knuckle bolts and bend the ears around.

Thanks!go for it and don't forget to post up your progress.

Well as BigSki mentioned i did some more bashing the other weekend trail riding with the club. I'll just let the pics do the talking

The nice thing about the metal is after a full day of bashing it only takes a few minutes to put it back into shape!
