Default Truggy in need of refreshing!

So I have this truggy custom made by Mattzilla himself, I built it when only SCX10 and tamiya were doing scale trucks, so no need to mention that the mechanical parts are pretty outdated...

Traxxas shocks with stock SCX10 tranny and axles. I'm looking to go 2.0 with it, but I honestly don't know where to start and where to go...

All it's life, it has been limited to smallish tir es, the biggest ones ever put on it were the Proline super swampers sx at what... 4.35? Bigger than that, it rubs all over the clodbuster body... And with that big axial pumpkin, there isn't much clearance under...

Do I go with portals? Traxxas? Gen7? Capras? Do I need to update the tranny?

I will try to put more pictures later!

Thanks!

You need to sell it to me ASAP. Yea, definitely sell it to me ASAP. Lol can’t wait to see what direction you take with the rebuild.

Took some pictures of the crude interior! On the electronic side, everything is good, Holmes hobbies Torquemaster 35T with a BRXL and Savox servo...

I might install a bec for a winch eventually, the tranny is a good old SCX10 one, with metal Gear inside, so nothing can break in there... And the output gear is Robinson Racing in one piece... The driveshaft are beefy rc4wd...

I think if it were mine I'd put either TRX or Capra portals under it and run it! I'm having the same dilemma right now as I'm rebuilding a barely ran original Honcho kit right now, truck is pristine but those original axles just need to go, I don't really care for the look of the real big tires on the Honcho I prefer the smaller Pitbulls etc.

I do prefer smaller tires, but I wanna have the choice. Right now I'm quite limited! The portals seems like the best solution for now!

Well.... Trx4 sport axles ordered! Meanwhile, might be a good Idea to start cleaning that tranny! And I might rebuild those axles for something else as well

Axles received! I started to swap them. The rear one is pretty much plug and play. The front one, I will have to tinker with the Panhard a bit more, it might be a few millimeters off, and I might need to move the servo so the arm can attach straight...

That's a cool looking truck! Good choice with the TRX-4 portals.

Swap is done! Now I have a snail crawler! That thing is slower than slow! It probably can pull my car to work, but I might be late at this pace!

Fortunately, I'm not the first one who does this, Harley made all the calculations for me! So I ordered 32P 50T Spur and 20T pinion... I was still in 48P, but at this speed and reduction, there's no point...

So I will clean and regrease that tranny, check the bearings and it will be good to go!

Ordered a winch also and might check my scale stuff inventory, those scale elastics lost their springy with time, I will probably need new ones. And I might try to make a dashboard...

I think you did the right thing with the trx4 axles. My trx4 has been the toughest rig I own. It is kind of odd to get used to the portals at first but man is It nice running small tires with loads of ground clearance. Great job giving that old
Truck some love.
