Default Traxxas 1/16 based Nissan Titan "The Independent" including G6 Report

Hello,

I want to introduce my recent build here. It all started with the Idea of a Slash 1/16 and a Nikko Nissan Hardbody.

The only similar build I found like this was here: 1/16th Slash-based LR3 - Scale 4x4 R/C Forums
But it doesn't look finished.

My aim was to build a really light car - the Target with out Ballast was 2000gramm.

To be continued.

BR
Daniel

So it was a Little bit to short!

One Idea was to Stretch the Chassis like it was done by RCDriver
S Works NEW eBuggy, rigged for racing! | rcdriver.com

But after lot's of hours in front of the Computer I found the perfect solution.

A chassis kit from Hot Racing that was designed to make a Traxxas 257mm to fit sedan bodies.

Up Next: we need massive articulation.

The Standard Traxxas shocks are way to short for what I wanted to achieve.

The solution was to use Losi MRC Comp shocks with Traxxas and Hot Racing springs.

A few weeks later my friend "cab77" helped me to cut and fit the body on the chassis.

This is a cool rig. I was blown away at how well the suspension works when I saw it at the G6. I'm going to steal some of these ideas to finish out my H1 hummer hardbody. Thanks for all the info!!

Hi,
Thank you for the feedback!

Next on my agenda was locking the diffs!

Man was I lucky when I found an offical Traxxas Part for the little Diffs.

BuyTraxxas

If you need them - they are rare - you need 2 Pieces per Truck!

Means order the prestine 7381 x 2

After Locking the diffs I was looking into gearing and motor/esc selection.

To get the gearing in a useable area - I did a gear flip in the Traxxas tranny and I am running 14/55 - smaller pinions could work - but not so nice ;)

Intial plan was to run my Robitronic 21.5T Brushless setup on 2S.
But It was too heavy - high up in the car. So after trying my Novak Micro Goat I ended up using a Roxy 2834/10 (880 rpm/V) Outrunner and a Sidewinder 3 on 3S

Attention you can switch the Tranny from 540 to 380 with some little parts - really flexible this gearbox ;)

Speed is very how I like it now. Crawls nicely and cruises a little bit ;)

And from 1350 mah 3S I get more than 90 Minutes of runtime!!

Hi,

The Hot Racing Chassis I used can be found here:
Hot Racing Traxxas 1/16 Slash/Rally 4WD RC Car upgrades and Hop-ups

There is also a carbon version!

If you go wider and use Revo Parts you could even use the Longer rear A Arms.

So with out customizing you can achieve a wheelbase of 257mm or 267mm with the revo parts.

Cheers
Daniel

Next on the Agenda was a first rollout. - some issues where found:

A) The 1/18 Buggy Springs are way to soft
B) Servos Saver needs elimnation
C) Little heavier wheels would help.

But I was very pleased with what it could do offroad.

Yet I found a cool spot for my Servo Winch.

So a little piece of aluminium tube and some finetunning with sanding paper and shims!

After this cure the steering was working how it should on a Scaler.

So no more servo saver - no more spring.

After the showing some pictures from it's maiden G6 - let's continue with the Details ;)

And yes a streetclass rig on 96 mm Dirt Grabber can finish a G6 ;)

The second test run was done with stiffer springs in our favourite park around Vienna, Austria.

Driveability was a lot better - and it was the first time out with a rear cage of an Axial EXO.

This was the first time I was running the 1350mah 3S configuration - and it gives me runtimes above 90 minutes.

Nevertheless I had issues with my winch.

Back home I was in a rush to finish the car - build a front bumper and fix the winch wich was the biggest Task. Now i run the winch oben with a wider pulley. Crafted from a carbon tube and 2 Servo horns glued to an M3.
It's based on a Towerpro MG995 and was realiable and strong at the G6

All set for the trip to the US for some G6'n

Then I took Swiss Air to San Francisco and drove to Auburn to be ready for some G6n.

With 90+ others the little Titan had to master the stage. I guess it run the smallest wheels by at least 10mm ;)

Using my bespoke golden Pull Pal RW60

The truck did very well - only the Dirt Grabbers are not your best bet on loose surfaces - yet I knew that before the Event.

After 7/8 of the course the plastic steering rack broke - that's why it was R&D Testrun for the Austrian Series ;)

I now ordered one from Aluminium - yet I had a spare part with me and could fix it.

It even did a little flight

6-8 markers before the finish of the main stage it stopped moving by it's own - but I was lucky a 6x6 showed up and got me home

So somehow it completed a G6 ;) - but not the Bonus stage which I designed.

Back in the Hotel I found the Problem - stupid Engineering by myself.
Using a steel spur with an aluminum pinion will give you a 1:10 lathe ;)

Nevertheless I was very happy - It could have gone a lot worse! Now I am very positive about the trucks design and decided to compete the full season with it.

R&D will not stop - and I will learn more I guess....

Im no Titan fan, but I really like this little rig alot. I been thinkin bout tossin together a 1/16 slash basher but now might have to look at the platform for a basher/trail rig. Thanks for posting it up!

I think with a high voltage Setup both should be possible.

I am enjoying this build. It's awesome that you are able to fly to comps!! Just some constructive criticism, but I think a slightly wider track width would benefit this rig in the performance department. It would also look mean as heck!!
