Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to put this, but since this little guy features 1.9 wheels and tires, I figured this was as good a place as any. Obviously, my build doesn't compare to other, excellent rigs on this forum, but I try to make use of existing plastic parts for my builds since I don't have welding experience to fabricate my own stuff. Anyway, I consider this a frankenbuggy with all of the zip ties and such. I started with the old Tamiya 4wd TL-01b chassis (Baja King and Baja Champ) that normally is a throw away chassis based on the TL01 touring car. The gearing is way too tall for fast brushless or hot brushed motors, so I've had to find a happy medium with a 17.5 sensored motor. The tuber chassis that sits on top of the TL01 chassis is the now discontinued Pro-Line Tuber for the AX10. To extend the suspension travel front and rear, I used Axial Wraith front shock mounts, Traxxas big bore rear shocks in front, and Gmade piggyback shocks in back. The suspension travel is excellent with these mods and there is no binding. The bottom TL01 chassis is protected by a custom plastic skid that runs along the entire length of the chassis (not pictured yet). This is still a work in progress, so some stuff looks a little rough. The driver compartment needs to be cleaned up, the front Wraith bumper needs refinement, etc., etc. The list is long. Oh, if someone has 1 spare Vaterra Race Claw tire from the Twin Hammers they'd like to unload, please PM me. Anyway, here it is... Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Thanks so much guys! The supportive comments are appreciated. Yes, a video is coming soon. I'm hoping to shoot more footage this week. Steve |
Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Saw this on Tamiyaclub earlier today, looks really impressive. I have an old Baja King which I was going to strip down for parts, but this is giving me ideas. Ideas which involve spending money... |
Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy That is GREAT!! |
Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Thanks again guys. A couple of updates today, although I'm still working on the video. Anyway, I relocated the battery to the rear using a Twin Hammers battery tray, changed the spare tire mount, installed a Turnigy 17.5 brushless, sensored motor (working great so far) and added some window nets (which I may cut down a bit). The battery relocation was the biggest goal as the stock TL01 battery holder made access a PITA! Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Dang,i was just thinking i might sell my pro-line tuber, but now i have changed my mind and build something like this.Looks good"thumbsup" |
Re: Tamiya TL01B Tuber buggy Thanks so much guys! Wow, so many folks on here are ultra talented, so I greatly appreciate the recognition for this little build. I'd love to see what some of you come up with for the Tuber. Due to gearing problems with the TL01, I've had to retrofit the Tuber to a Stampede 4x4 chassis and it looks just as cool as this build. I'll try to get some updated pictures. Steve |
