It still lives!

Actually it was sitting in the corner covered in rust looking miserable as hell from a KOH race last summer at the bean, everything was frozen with rust, and I mean everything. Axles, transmission, steering... I guess that's what happens when you play in the ocean.

Anyhow, I disassembled it and saved a few things. Back in November, I grabbed one of my last few Bruiser frames and decided to resurect the OG 'yota with full leaf spring suspension, just like my real one. I wanted to use the Ultimate Yota axles I had sitting around and lower the CG as well as improve everything I could think of. So off and running I went and got it in a running condition but never posted anything.

Here are some pics I took of the redo on the chassis.

Had purchased a couple of Eritex T-cases awhile back and wanted to use one on this. Onlt gripe I have about it is lack of mounting holes. Easy enough to fix but I'm gettin lazy in my old age. Here's the mount I made which solidly mounts it to my skidplate.

A little paint to hide all the brazing ugliness.

Electronics tray to mount the ESC and winch controller. as well as keep the wires from getting into the drivelines.

Here you can se the straightened rails as well as the overall layout. Everything except the motor is nice and low. Originally I was using an airplane gear reduction as well as an HPI gear reduction but had issues keeping the gears together with the brushless. New plan required the Axial trans to be angled for best driveshaft angle and to clear the steering rod.

Crappy pic but here's a shot of the aluminum Bruiser replacement bellcrank by RC4WD. Reinforced double shear bracket and cross over setup has horrible geometry and requires a high torque servo to have any kind of positive steering but looks cool and helps with the bumpsteer.

Low mount battery for better CG. Same position as the fuel tank in the 1:1.

Underbelly shot, clean, simple, smooth.

What's this, a random fairlead stuck to my truck?

Actually, I was able to squeeze a 3racing winch between the rails. Attached to the rear crossmember with a skid running on 3s.

Here area couple flex shots with the new setup. It's purposely limited by shock positioning for better spring life but I could get qute a bit more if I reposition them. Unnecessary for it in my opinion.

Possibly but it will be making the trip for sure. Either this or the 57 chevy I ran last year.

Yes sir, I got this frame for $16 plus shipping. It was bent up really bad, straightened them out and made them the same width the entire length as well as flattened out the front (so it doesn't slope down at the front).

What do you think of the RC4WD axles? Are they holding up well?

These were one of the first sets originally sent out to me for testing. I went through a couple ring gears and one front inner and outer shaft. Originally, I put these axles under a Hilift with Novak 18.5 power and beat the crap out of them. Not bad except the aluminum locker/ring gear.

The ring gears were aluminum at the time and the shafts were some mystery alloy. I know they supposedly did away with the aluminum ring gears and should all be hardened gear sets now. The shafts on the other hand might still be the same material. Pretty stout stuff, my failure was due to a pin walking out of the ball (I always press them out and use 609 Loctite on them now). I purchased all the upgraded hardened gears and shafts for these so should be good. We will see after Montana how they hold up.
