Very good idea on modding a O.G. chassis, I'll bet it's much stronger now that it doesn't have that compound curve just behind the front tires.

Do you plan on making any more of your military wrap leafs?

Thank you, definately stronger same goes for straightening it over the front axle. The two areas that always get bent.

Yes on the springs, I apologize to all for the delay, just been too much going on.

Here she sits ready to go to Montana! Tore it down to paint the chassis, bumpers and installed front inner fenderwells. Still need the rear wells installed and install light bar but that's about it. If time permits, I will paint up another body.

What happened to my head?

Looks good Dean, I think you should test it out sometime next week at Niles Canyon before you take it to Montana.

I assume this truck will be at the scale nationals too?
I’m running some Yota axles under my Bruiser also, I know they’ll get a good stress test from you!
I want to see pics of carnage if you grenade anything!
Voted for your FJ45 of course!
These two rigs just keep getting better!

Here are some pics I took of Travis C's FJ45. This thing wheels like mad sporting the OG Mashers.

Thanks! Funny you should ask. I upgraded to all the HD internals and have had no issues since. Well, except one.

As with most aftermarket dogbones, I sheared off the dogbone pins. Should have installed the Tamiya dogbone pins prior to running these. I usually do this to everything I run with Tamiya size dogbones and have had almost no failures. Just get a set of TLT/Hilift dogbones and press out the pins. Press them into your aftermarket stuff with a bit of loctite and you are good. If the pin breaks or shears off the dogbone end will almost always bend and be useless. I have been able to straighten them for reuse but it's a pain in the ass.

Ok, if you were wondering how I keep my rear leafs happy on 3s and an 18.5 Brushless, I'll share.

Made a simple torque arm with a shackle at the front. I have it on the right side because this is the torque twist side (unfortunately I forgot about this when I rebuilt this with these axles and put everything with substantial weight on the right side). Originally I had one connected to a truss and was attached to the skid near the frame on the drivers side. This compounded the twist and had to be ditched. New one is much better and not only reduces the torque twist but also keeps the leaf springs happy.Shackle lets it articulate unrestricted. So far it hasn't caused any bad hangups on the rocks.

Edit: forgot one.

No problem. Now you need someone to photoshop the grill into the pics from yesterday.

I'm curious, did straightening out the chassis like that do anything to the wheelbase? And also I bet the rear flexes a lot better now?

This rig is truely amazing, I have seen it in person a few times over the past couple of years. It has not really changed all that much over the years, or has it?? Ha Ha it just seems to work, and having a driver that thinks out of the box helps too. Nice Deano!

WB didn't change much, maybe a few millimeters if that. As far as flex, yes it does. Using the Highlift spring spacing on the back narrows things up and allows it to flex much more.

Thanks Bill! Miss haanging out with you, how have you been?

Changes have been ongoing, some subtle, some pretty significant. All for the better and to more resemble my 1:1.
