When the video for deans truck came out it damn near almost broke the Internet...the scale community was in an up roar over what was probably one of if not the scalest truck at the time. Shortly after the debut of this truck people who had deep pockets started to build up "chino clones" myself being one of them. These were the days of 50-100$ bruiser cabs, a time when a mountaineer bed would sell for 100$ and everyone wanted because few knew of styrene or how to cut the sleeper cab off a bruiser. While Dean lives on the opposite side of the country from me, I still consider him a friend of mine. I have competed with Dean and spent hours on the phone with him. Dean hooked me up with his old 1:1 hilux, held onto it for weeks while I sold my 1:1 SAS 4Runner. A week or so back Dean told me he found some seals for the 83 and said if I wanted them he would send out for the cost of shipping, before I could reply he said if I bought the original scale crawler he'd throw them in the box with it I couldn't believe he was willing to part with the truck. He did tell me that I was one of 2 people he would only be offering it too and well needless to say I had to take this opportunity. My funds were a bit low with the holidays coming up and with my Subaru disaster so I sent Dean a small deposit to hold it while I gathered up the funds needed. After I sold my fj45 on eBay I sent Dean the rest of the cash and now today it is here Many people won't understand the history or the value of this truck...scale trucks are dime a dozen these days but this truck has literally traveled the country and was one of, if not the ONE, to start off the scale revolution. I can't wait to beat it like a red headed step child class one better watch out when I show up... This thing is gonna be a beast Last edited by 1BadJeepBruiser; 12-18-2014 at 04:42 PM. | |

Glad to see that the beast still lives. Remember Dean letting me give it a spin way back in the day when this was still "new".

| Re: a real scale crawler! action pics pg10 Ryan told me some time back he would sell it to me, it has to go with the Mini me one he acquired from the guy who built the micro replica of it. I just have never had the cash altogether at one time to do it. I have been thinking about it more and more lately, my friend bob (eddievedder) started buying back some of his original trucks. There are really only a few I miss/regret selling. The chino clone is number 1 followed by the Atomic Toy. Ryan has had his eye on the subarux so I am going to finish it back up and see if we an work a deal maybe for that and some cash. Would be awesome to have them both...They were probably the 2 most popular trucks of their time

I miss the heyday when we were fabbing stuff that nobody made. Cutting 2.2's down for the 1.9 stock car tires. Narrowing wheels and filling them with BBs, star cutting foams... That was good times. I miss my TLT axles on my original Bruiser frame, traxxas diff, lathe motor, original Bruiser body for display, HPI Bronco body for running. I also miss my Clod Axled Super. Hell, I think it's picture is still on the site here. Good times back then. I still have my modded 3 channel TC3 radio.

Couldn't agree more. Chino63 is a true scale master and a great friend. He's taught me a lot. Enjoy the truck 1BJB, I think you're the biggest Yota addict I know.

When I think of this truck I think back to its original form, mostly the color, and decided it needed to be tan again like the old 1:1 used to be. I didn't go crazy sanding out the scratches, I hit with with some 400 to break the shine and smooth out the rougher gouges. Then came the filler primer The out came the light ivory which actually matched the old 1:1s color almost perfectly* Tossed it back on the chassis and through the grill under it just to get an idea Yup...that'll work!* Paint was still a bit tacky, hopefully it'll be cured by tomorrow and then I'll paint in the details. I'm out of side badges so I have to hit up John/MTHead for some new ones. Gotta see if I have a set of side markers too. I have one of these sweet Chinese interior kits to go in as well. I also want to braze up an old school roll bar for the bed. Just got some Harris safety silv in and picked up some 3/16 solid rod, just need some brake line to go with it. More to follow* Mike* |

So we got a blizzard hitting us and I wanted something to snow bash with a long the kyosho blizzard so I decided to get OG fired up. Dean had told me the motor was broken so I found a integy 45 turn and chucked it in the lathe for a quick clean up. Installed it and got the steering EPAs down. I couldn't get the shift servo to work so I locked it down in 1st for now. Wired up the head lights and tossed a 3s pack in from the Subarux and took it outside for a few pics Then I got stuck... need to hook the winches up... maddddddd flex yoooooooo I like Tiyota crawlers Thanks for looking!
