Default Eliminator_ryan's Dirty Chevy build a.k.a. The Dirty Burger

Well I've been a long time member / lurker of this forum so i guess its time i post a build thread. I've been in the crawling scene since the TLT days and have built tons of rigs over the years. I own/run a hobby store and in the winter (yes cold Canadian winter) we have an indoor crawler course that we run so i wanted a new rig for this year.

I am using a Clod body that I cut and narrowed and It wanted to use scx front frame. I started first by moving the skid forward 14mm. I will be using music wire for the cage and tig welding it.

Now to start the body work

So when you're working with styrene or abs you'll get joints that's aren't 100% . I try to use a much material as possible to hold the strength. I shave slivers off of a scrap piece and soften it plastic weld, I then jam it in the crack and smooth it out with the plastic weld brush.

Now for the back

Before

After

Now to start the narrowing of the front nose

Now I tacked some tabs on the roll bar to mount the cab for mock up

hung my main hoop on the back

Quick mock up

I started this build over a week ago and have all these pics so I'll try and make it in a few post just so I don't overlap pics. Sorry for the camera quality these are all from my phone.

Another mock up bum shot......

The following night (usually get home at 7:00 or 8:00 pm Bust A** in the garage till 12:00-1:00 then back inside to get and off for work at 6:30 yeah my Girlfriend loved me over the past week ) I got a good chunk of the cage work done in the back.

Now came shock mounting time, I made some shock plates out of some steel stock and drilled and tapped ever hole by hand. In my lack of sleep / zombie state I snapped a tap in the 2nd last hole of the second shock plate. Luckily I center punched the tap and because it was hardened it shattered and i saved the shock plate , and because I'm O.C.D. I had a spare tap so I could continue to build.

I wanted to hang a spare tire but wanted it to be A: Removable B: A bit different mounting. I took a Revo rocker arm post and turned it down on the lathe and I made a hold down with m4 volt and some welding rod. I then added some cage bracing to brace it to the front of the cage.

I tacked some nuts on the back cage to hold the rear fenders, and added a rear cab back and floor broads.

Because I moved the skid forward its shorter in the front and huge in the back for links and drive shafts. I fixed my rear shaft issue by using 2 wraith updates on the rear.

I then added another bottom hoop for the spare tire (I will cut the bottom of the fenders so this will protect them.)

Stinger time ........ I made some post in the lathe and welded some rod to the ends. I will re shape it after i ass all the bracing and adjust the length.

I wanted a fuel cell to go in the back but wanted it to be a bit different. I found an old t-maxx receiver box and mounted the axial fuel cell top on it. I then milled the bottom of it to drop down into my rails and drilled and tapped it so it stays in place.

Made a battery plate and mounted my electrical (will put rec in the fuel cell latter.)

So yeah now this is all up to date and I will post progress as it come along.

Thanks gearhead79 and yes I am running a sensor wire, would be impossible to crawl without one on a brushless.

Did an hour on the truck last night added 2 more cage tie bars in the back, shortened my front stinger and I shot a coat of filler primer on the body (pics of that soon)

Got a chance to made it out to buddies back yard course to make a trial run.
We live in the prairies here so we have to make our rock courses. Truck worked awesome and performed better than I ever expected. Here's a few shots.

Got some time in tonight on the Mill and started on my Grilles. It has a long way to go but it should look killer when its all done.

I also made some rock sliders and started on the body work.

Well Today was goody day, My birthday present to myself came today

Huge shout out to Steve, Rob, and the rest of crew at Vanquish products for the killer parts. Steve is a friend of mine and he handles his business top notch in my books.

I even went with a matching spare rim

The rims just didn't pop to me yet

So scale nuts and set screws cured the problem

I think these rims were a must.
