| Early Bronco (oh yes it is!)
Yep you guessed it, I started on another aluminum body. This is going to be a “quick” build as i promised my buddy I would have a truck for him to drive in the scale comp In pittsburg. I started this 2 weeks ago so I’m little behind getting it posted. After I proved the concept of using a lexan body to make molds with my Scout project I decided to use the process again on a Tamiya early Bronco body. Same as before I poured the resin right into the body. This time I poured the whole side at once This allowed me to get the front fender, door, rocker, rear quarter and roof side out of one pour. Once the panels were cut out and cleaned a bit I made some test panels The rear fenders got some cutouts for lights if I get time to put them in Next I poured the hood And the rear the parts were trimmed out the tail gate came out good the hood needed some fine tuning. The original lexan body is formed over a 3 piece mold so a separation line was in the body that I needed to sand out now I could make a panel out of the rear mold I was able to make the back window frame. I needed a way to more define the window and provide a place to cut so I chucked it into my drill press with a milling bit and a cheap X-Y vice next, I cast the front This took a little more work as I needed to remove the hood and the fenders to be able to fold the metel over and provide a gluing surface for the panels. I also used a flat wood bit to remove the headlight bumps Since this is going to have a roof it was next to be made It also had a parting line that needed cleaned up. then I trimmed all around the perimeter then made a test piece I also cast a mold for the windshield but forgot to take pics of it. Short on time I didn’t want to bother casting the grill and decide to try and make a panel right off it. I utilized the stand-offs on the back to hold it to a wood board Then simply formed the metal over the original part Test fit into the casting of the surround Then I made a test part of the grill surround And test fit the two together. Then it was time to fit all the panels together, minus the roof. And a mock-up with the tires I was originally going to use but they are just too big in my opinion.I'll decide on tires later, for now i'll get the chassis done I didn’t have an SCX10 frame but I did have a skid so I used that to have a little time and bent and sliced ˝” square tube in about the same shape. And few holes and the frame has begun My calibrated eyeball must still be working because when i sat the body on it fit perfectly! That's it for now. I'll get more progress up later |

I'm just curious as t how you form the metal over the molds??? Like that grill.......it came out perfect with all those small and tight detailed grooves. But I guess a master magician never reveals his secrets. Very IMPRESSIVE!!! |

me too this guy has some serious talent. I have always wanted to have a metal brat made and build a scale 4x4 brat and go beat it to hell on some trails and make some scale dents!!! would be sooo much fun.. imagine having a body so scale that if you tumble down a hill.... ..... it wouldnt be something you want to do. just like in a 1:1. pure awesome!! |

I think the whole process and result are extraordinary. Since you are making this 100% from scratch, how hard would it be to create uncut rear fenders? That would make for some crazy cool body panels. Lookin forward to seeing this come together. | |

I agree as well, and I would think* be really pretty easy to do if you start with a mold like he does. I still have not heard from him, but I am waiting!!!!! L.R. |
