Default Nuther HL build

Hey guys, not a newbie but I haven't been around for a while. Some of the older guys might remember me from my buggy.

On with the hi lift...

Want to build this one as real looking as possible while still being modded. I'm not happy at all with the amount of flex yet. I'm running bruiser main leafs with the longest leaf from the HL, bruiser shackles, and have done the tapering (chino style) on the ends of the front leafs so far. I would like to stay with leafs but not opposed to 1/4 or 3/4 eliptic setup of some sort. I have also done a ladder bar with a shackle at the frame mount. Any suggestions/ideas highly appreciated!

Sad flex

I'm not expecting a ton of flex but it needs more than this!!!

Yeah, no springs in the shocks, should have mentioned that. I have seen a few other HL's that seem to twist up pretty good but I'm having no luck with mine.

Default My $.02

I built a bronco bodied bb-51 chassis truck with coils in the front and juggy leaves in the rear. I was using regular shackles but not much flex. Look at a chain link with a half link (also called a offset link). With that set up your truck will set a little lower but will allow for alot more droop. Alot like 1:1 revolver shackles. Go to www.mcmaster.com and search offset links and you will see what I mean.

Gotta go beat on the thing, they loosen up after a while. And sag some also.

I think my Hi Lift sits at about 2/3rd the normal ride height it used to. Though the leafs are bent a tad.

Looks good, I like the trac bar. I am with EP you gotta beat on it it a bit. After I romp mine off of jumps at the worlds they are real soft now and I get alot of flex using only the main leaf and the one small leaf (no springs in shocks). My truck currently has probably a good 40% sag

Jumping it a few times will loosen up the springs. So will lubing the leaves, if you can deal with all the crap that sticks to the lube.

Cory, I think your truck is layin' frame now

Already have used bruiser main leafs and it has no flex. Started work on the rear 4 link tonight. Gonna try a 1/4 eliptic setup.

Bobbed bruiser chassis.

Still using HL axles and tranny but want a "scale" rig. Not sure if it will still be considered a HL after this.

ladder bar worked just fine. Solid mounted at the axle and mounted with a shackle at the frame just like they do on the 1:1's. Didn't loose a bit of the minimal articulation it had.

All axle link mounts are done except for a little cleanup and paint. Now on to the frame mounts...

jeep94xj, i made a torque arm/ladder bar like that for one of halfcab's trucks. works great and keeps the springs happily arched. the cool thing with the shackle at the front is that it allows bind free articulation and you can dial in (or out) anti-squat with the length of the arm and angle of the shackle. keep up the good work and let us know how it works when finished!

Little update, I mocked up the 1/4 eliptic setup on the rear tonight. Like how it worked out so I'm gonna get fabbin on the mounts for everything. Pics to come soon.

Looks really good, can't wait to see more. I've been working on a set of upper link mounts similar to yours for my scale TLT
