Well, axle housings are done! I just sent CREEPERBOB some measurements for the axle shafts. Hopefully, it can be timed just right to where both Rick's lockers and Bob's axle shafts are coming in the mail at the same time. if not, I know it'll be worth the wait.

I pretty much have everything on hand and ready for the installation onto the chassis.

As for the axles, you'll see that the rear axle is more narrow and the diff is still slightly offset. This is because the 1:1 14Bolt is like this as well. It may not have as much of an offset diff as this scaled axle does but it works with me! Also, there is about a 3/8" difference in width between the front and rear axle. It should have a pretty mean stance.

Decased Tekin FXR and Futaba receiver. It has the same footprint as the receiver with the case on it.

... So, I think I want to take this build one step further. I want to try and make a working hydraulic steering system. I've seen it done on a comp crawler but he didn't post up how he did it or how it performed. I do know that they make pretty small rams and I was thinking I could make something like that.

The only problem is that I would have to have a pretty good sized pump to get the pressure up high enough to turn the tires in a sticky situation.

Let me know what you think.

Mock up of a hydraulic ram and some VP bling to add to the great axles (IMO)

I think the hydraulic system will be more mechanical than having pumps and valves that are going to take up precious real estate. Obviously, I'll have to figure out how to make sure everything works but I will use a powerful servo that pushes and pulls (suction) a volume of oil in a master cylinder and then that in turn will move the steering ram. I will be full blast on the steering this summer when I get into machine shop.

There are a couple hydro setups out there right now. Some that are over the top expensive and some that are like what you are describing. I can't think of the builder...but I know of one that sounds spot on. I'll see if I can find a link. Maybe it would help with the process. Greg

I found the links. Two different styles. If you haven't seen them...check them out. G

Those are incredible links, Greg! Thanks a bunch, man! That will definitely help me out with the motions of the system.

It does seem that in both videos, that the systems are cable steering. I would love to do a hydraulic push/pull set up but it seems that a lot of people use the cable system.

If you find any other links please let me know!

I decided to get off of my butt and actually build something and mock up how it should work. So, what did I do? Build a remote steering system.

I decided that hydraulics for the steering system would add wayyyy too much weight and reduce a lot of real estate for the chassis. So instead, I've made a faux hydraulic ram that uses a cable system. Here's a video:

Very nice find! I actually haven't seen that video. I like that it is in a good definition and shows how simple it is.

As far as the steering goes, since I only have 5 square inches or so of real estate to use for the electronics. I will use a mechanical faux steering system. The hydraulic system has to have a mini servo for the switch block, pump, switch block, valves etc. It's just asking for headaches...

If you're familiar with the Tamiya/RC4WD Mojave body, the front clip is the ONLY area that is covered. I'll have to install the: servo winch, steering servo, FXR (decased), Futaba receiver (decased), battery, transmission/motor. It's going to be STUFFED.

Mattzilla (Lue) has been completely swamped with his production chassis and hasn't gotten around to mine just yet. I did talk to him earlier this week over the phone and I asked him if he could get the chassis halfway started (hopefully completed) by June 20th. He told me he would try his very best.

After I get the chassis back, I will be going full blast on this build. I will be machining my own axle tubes and get with all of the RCC vendors to get the scale accessories going.

I decided to make a styrene front clip for the Birth of a Cruiser build. It'll make it a little more unique and it'll allow me to get some styrene practice in.

Some very crude fenders.

Thank you! I'm hoping Mattzilla will get finished with the chassis by the end of this month.
one thing I'm still scratching my head about is how your gonna attach the passenger side shock on the front.

I hope he is but we are closing in pretty quick on the end of the month.

More than likely, I'll have to scoot the chunk over to the center more. You're using an SCX10 frame correct?

I'm hoping the same thing; I've been on his behind for the last few weeks about it.
