Starting my build with an Axial SCX10 frame, transmission and axles

Drive train:
- Robinson racing steel transmission gears
- MIP steel drive shafts
- Under drive gears out back and over drive up front
- Axial CVD's
- Beef tubes front and rear
- Vanquish products stage 1 kit UPDATE: Ditched the orange for black Axial aluminum hubs and knuckles

Suspension:
-RC4WD ultimate scale shocks drooped with no springs or oil (100mm) UPDATE: Gmade XD piggy backs (103mm)
-4 linked front and rear
-All ten links made out of 1/4" brake line, 8/32 threaded rod and Traxxas Revo large link ends
-12.50" wheel base. The front is thrown way out for a better approach angle

Wheels:
-1.9 Proline Interco TSL SX super swamper tires
-Crawler Innovations two stage foams, medium in the rear and soft in the front
-Motoworx Limited Edition 10 hole aluminum rims and center caps

Body:
-Tamiya Hilux (Toyota)
-Curby customs doved the cab, shortened the grill, made a new hood lip, cab back, shaved the bottom edge off all the way around and filled in all the other unnecessary holes through out
-Tinted windows so I don't have to do an interior (yet) UPDATE: Tamiya interior and driver with no windows
-Going to be caged with 3/16 brake line, silver soldier brazed. Hinge-able for battery and maintenance access

Electronics:
-Temporary Axial 55T motor UPDATE: brushed Tekin Heavy Duty 35T
-Temporary Gens Ace 2 cell 5000 25c battery UPDATE: Onyx 3 cell 5000 25c
-Castle side winder SV2 ESC tuned via Castlelink
-Savox SC-1267-SG servo
-Castle 10 amp BEC @ 7.4v

I already mirrored the transmission to reduce torque twist. Running Beef tubes front and rear instead of having rotating weight in the wheels to ease up on the drive train

Did you already buy the stage one kit? I have it and the "high steer arm" on the c-hub rubbed with fat/wide tires. The axial kicks in as not to rub. But just my cents good luck man i'll be watchin.

Looks like a fun build. A few thoughts:
Good call on the beef tubes - rotating mass = lower runtime & drivetrain stress.

Not sure why you need all that steel in your drive train though if you are running only 2s and a 55t - why not run 3s ? Also, you are running a BEC right? If you already have those parts then I can understand, but heavy tranny parts will needlessly (given your power plant) raise your COG.

Love the motoworx! Good job with the links too. What's the wheelbase, 11.5" or so?

Nice list of parts.
One question, why run full droop with them shocks with no oil or springs? It'll be horrible to drive!

Also, if you are looking at a hinged exo cage, have a look here at an Exo caged hilux i built a while back

Yeah in orange. I had to sell my XL swampers because there was no way they were fitting with the rims that I scored slightly used. I had to get Traxxas grey wheel hex's and put the drag link ends on the bottom side of the high steer arm in order not to rub the tire

UPDATE: ditched the VP kit, problem solved

I already had the 2 cell battery. What kind of brushed motors should I be looking at to get the most wheel speed and run time considering the amount of weight and gearing? I'm running a Castle 10 amp BEC @ 7.4 and I went all out with the steel drive line to be reliable on the trail, I've stripped out the plastic trans gears on 2 cell with a 55T before

UPDATE: 3 cell with a 35T

No springs or oil was the only way I could droop them for low COG and get them to work with out any bind-age during articulation. I'm aware that it will side hill like crap and unload like crazy but I got use to it. I will run them like that for a bit and maybe go to sprung later. Had my eyes on the XD piggy backs? input on 93mm or 103mm? I know some shocks seem bigger than others

I tried to view it but don't have an account

UPDATE: 103mm XD's

Sorry mate try this one!
exoed hilux comp truck

Either shocks will do, i have Losi shocks on my SCX10 but made new shock hoops that were 10mm longer with brake tube to compensate for the extra length, only cause i had the losi shocks sitting there and no other SCX10 or shorter shocks. Maybe its something worth considering when you have the tube and bender out?

Looking pretty good! Digging those wheels. I may have to get my hands on a all black set! I'll be watching this build up

As far as the piggy backs go.. Go with the 93mm. It's plenty for the scx10 and you won't lose to much cog with it adjust right and will perform much better on side hills the unsprung. They are just really big body shocks. Keel that in mind

You might try a Holmes hobbies or brood 45t on 2s or use the 3s from your wraith. 55t on 2s might be a little slow.

I got some 103mm gmade XD piggy backs. I was able to start brazing once I had my ride height. I cut a couple inches off the front and the rear of the frame. Used 1/4" brake line cross members with 8/32 thread ready rod and nuts for the hinging points

Looks awesome man! I've always wanted to do a Yota truggy build, but I have way too many other projects!

I pretty much finished the tube work over the last few nights, the only brazing left to do is tie it in to the frame at the front and I'm off to the cosmetics

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. The dove was inspired by another members thread: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/paint...ilux-cd13.html

It's slowly coming along. I still have to mount the battery, electronics, lights and propane tank/s

Here's another peak

I really like wheel base, and love how the wheels look on that Yota body. Thnks for helping me decided between those and the VPs.....LOL...
I'm actually running those XD shocks (103mm I think???) with no springs and Diff oil on them, love them
