Samurai buggy Been a while since I've built a new crawler and seeing my buddies samurai buggy he's built inspired me to build one as well. It's based off a scx10 frame and axles. I'll be using basically the front half of the frame. This is more of a backyard toy over a comp build so I'll leave things prettys simple. 12 1/2" wheelbase, stretched out front and a little shorter in the rear. Using a losi mrc tranny mounted up front with an eBay transfercase mounted to the stock scx10 skid plate. Fxr esc, castle bec. The chassi will be a mix of 3/16 brake line and solid stock. Trying to Keep as much of the weight forward of the skid plate. Ill be building a styrene firewall, cowl and hood. Here's my inspiration. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...psad72e0f9.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps2dc4bb41.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps54d89e5e.jpg |
Re: Samurai buggy I started assembling the running gear, and suspension. The front half of the frame will be pretty standard and simple. Also got my motor/tranny combo. Having a machinst buddy make an adapter to go from the 4mm losi output to the 6mm transfercase inupt also for me to run the wild boar axial drive shafts throughout the system. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1969f1e8.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps44480ffd.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...psee35b9eb.jpg |
Re: Samurai buggy Been slowly working on this, I got my eBay transfer case, picked up a set of Rock Krawler rear links to extend the wheelbase to 12.5". Also decided to change up the body and go with a tamiya fj40 hood cowl and windshield frame. A buddy and I bought the resin to make molds of the body in order to build aluminum panels for the rig. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1512c847.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5c98a001.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps9f041c25.jpg Pretty excited about how this is turning out. Shooting for a stance and look of this orange buggy. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps36e842b1.jpg |
Re: Samurai buggy Ordered some more goodies today, a new 370 size motor for the losi mrc tranny I'm using and a wraith interior with seats. Also gota smoking deal on some comp compound maxxis trepps with foams. Hopefully my resin will show up next week so I can make the body panel molds for the fj40 hood, cowling, and windshield frame. Then the tube work will begin. Thinking of ordering the king shocks over the ones I currently have in a 90mm front and 100mm rear. The more fj buggies I look at the more im leaning towards this design... Any input? http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5932b6d7.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb9188d78.jpg |
Re: Samurai buggy Started working on the interior. I'm using a wraith floor pan and dash and building my own seats. What I'm shooting for... http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3214d0e3.jpg My card stock template. I got some blue and black craft foam for the padding and some .008 aluminum for the frames http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...pseaabd986.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...psbaa6947d.jpg |
Re: Samurai buggy Nice, this is going to look sweet. You might have to hit me up with some aluminium FJ40 body panels for my Ultra 4. Eli "thumbsup" |
Re: Samurai buggy Still waiting in resin to show up so I can make panel molds. But they shouldn't be too hard to make pretty simple form not a to of detail. |

Re: Samurai buggy Saturday progress, I have an old just body in using to build the chassi off of so I don't destroy any aluminum panels. It's coming together nicely, all these pics are at ride height I do believe. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps24cbfdba.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps4d58e046.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8dbb7b97.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1403b742.jpg |

Re: Samurai buggy Got my rear shocks mounted today now it's officially a roller.
