So the rear axle bearing caps need to mount to the front version axle tubes. They weren't designed to do that. So you're going to grind the ends of the tubes down slowly, checking often as you do, so that you can slide the bearing caps on far enough that the screw holes line up. Sent from the great unknown! |

Now you need to move onto the axle shafts. They need to be shortened. I suggest that you start by grinding the flat parts in a continuation towards the outside end of the shaft. This way you can test fit for length as you go. If you keep the flat parts the same, it will slide all the way through the locker making this a lot easier and more accurate. Once the stop on the wheel end of the shaft fits into the recess at the outer end of the tube, you can cut the excess off of the locker end of the shaft. I suggest that you compare the untouched shaft to your modified one before cutting it off. You want the flattened end that goes into the locker to be the same length as your original was from the built in stop to the end. Then repeat on the other shaft. IMPORTANT! Make sure that you fit each axle to only one side of the diff assembly! If you are fitting your first shaft to the right hand tube, then you need to fit the next shaft to the left hand tube. While I was doing mine, it seemed like one side was slightly shorter. Sent from the great unknown! |

Once your shafts are fitted, push the axles in, slide the bearing caps on and put the screws in as per the instructions from RC4WD. Make sure that everything turns smoothly. At this point, you can mount the axle assembly to your rig however you want to do it. I used the Wraith link mounts because they stay in tight to the pumpkin. It is necessary so that your tires don't rub on anything. And this also gives you a place to mount your shocks. Put your lower links in the bottom hole and your shocks in the top hole. Here's a couple more pics of my setup. I'm running 4 shocks because of the weight that I'm pulling when I'm hooked up to the gooseneck trailer. In case anyone is curious, I mounted a set of Vanquish Razor shock mounts to the bottom of the axle assembly for my rearmost shocks. It was the only solution I could come up with using what I had on hand. I think they'll work out and they don't look too bad. In the last two shots you can see that the rear tires tuck pretty good! They stick out about 1/4" on each side. I don't really see any way to make them tuck anymore than that and I'm much happier now! I hope this helps someone out with building their own dually! It's not a cheap solution but it is definitely a solution that can take a beating and keep running for a long time! Sent from the great unknown! Last edited by Hwheeler73; 03-02-2016 at 07:15 AM. |

Very Nice!!!! That is basically what I have done for my Dually axle on my D129 build using standard SCX10 axles and housings. Yours is much nicer having started out with the D44s. Cheers H2Micr0 |

This build gave me the itch to build me a Chevy dually. Do you still have this rig? If so how does it look now? Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk |

What’s up everyone!? I know it’s been a really long time sense I post here. The dually has been redone again but this is the final rendition! I stripped the body down again but this time I used real automotive paint and clear coat. No more “automotive” spray paint! The paint job came out awesome!! So I can finally call it done. It’s up for sale on eBay now so I can move on to a new custom build. That dually is badass man! I made an account just so I can see how one is built! Would you know if any places that makes a flatbed with a headache rack for these RC trucks? I think I might start a build myself or see if I can talk someone out of there truck haha! Have a good day man!

Build it yourself! Way more rewarding in the end. __________________ Amain Addict

I agree with Scale that it is more satisfying to build it yourself but not everyone can do it. If you are really interested I’m letting this one go. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
